I couldn't share this yesterday. Every time I tried, the words just turned into tears. They still are, but I'm processing it a little better today.
We lost our sweet little Gremlin yesterday morning. 💔🐖
This is the part of farm life I will never get used to. I understand that loss is part of it—believe me, I've been here many times before—but I don't think it will ever get easier.
These are little souls, and I feel so deeply connected to each one. Comforting a tiny life, whispering that he isn't alone as he takes his last breath, will never hurt less. But somehow, that pain will never deter me from this life either, because that kind of connection is also what makes it so incredibly special.
Most days, there is so much magic in living this close to so many unique animal souls. You learn their personalities, their quirks, the things they love and the things they absolutely do NOT. You care for them, laugh at them, worry about them, and each one finds their own little place in your heart.
And then there are days like yesterday.
Days when you do everything you know to do, desperately wish you could have done more, repeat every single action in your mind wondering about all of the IF's and still in the end your heart breaks anyway.
Gremlin was only with us for 10 days, but that tiny little guy left a much bigger hole in my heart than his little body ever should have been capable of. He spent his short life with us, his siblings and his sweet momma Miley, who has been the absolute best first-time mom. He knew warmth. He knew family. He knew love.
His little life was short, but it was treasured. And he won't ever leave my heart.
Farm life is beautiful. It's messy. It's magical.
And sometimes, it's just really, really hard.
Rest easy, sweet Gremlin. 💔
You were so very loved.
