Dear ones, this is catharsis for me, feel free to pass on by if it is too tedious for you.

Laurel, the grand matriarch of my ewe flock, has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. She was nearly 13 years old. She is preceded by her great grandmother, Josie, the founding matriarch of my flock, her grandmother, Chamomile, and her mother, Moira.

Laurel's twin sister, Queen Anne's Lace "Lacie", is still with me.

Laurel leaves a strong legacy in the flock. She was an excellent and dedicated mother and she taught those skills to her daughters. She was always the first ewe of the season to cycle and come seeking the ram and she gifted me with twins at each lambing.

Her descendants include her daughters ~ Linden, Lupine, Ginger, and Saffron.

Her granddaughters ~ Lobelia and Veronica, daughters of Linden; Liatris, daughter of Lupine; and Jamaica, daughter of Ginger.

And her great granddaughters ~ Licorice, daughter of Lobelia; and Verbena, daughter of Veronica.

I will miss her deeply, she was my friend and sister.

I understand it's not considered a good thing to have thistles growing in my pasture... but I do need to note that they are absolutely teeming with pollinators! There are all manner of butterflies, bees, wasps, and moths continually visiting her flowers, far more than any other plant I have seen.

Katy-did!

Watched a rat snake finish her molt by rubbing up against a milk crate and some other things in the goat shed. I could see her purposefully press her body against the hard edges. Very cool!
