Food brings us together in ways not many other things do. Think of the warmth and joy of your family sitting around a table for your evening dinner. At Willow Run Farm, we want to bring people together in our community by putting quality food on your table and also providing a space for our customers to connect with the land, the farmers, and each other.

Okay, fess up. How many of you do this? 😂

The red-tailed hawk nestlings at the edge of our property are very nosy. They have to keep their eye on anyone who walks by underneath their nest. 😂

One of the parents was shrieking nearby, telling me to go away. I wanted to watch it feed its babies, but it was not having it.

With my best girl Hetty leading the herd, this move from one end of the farm to the other was surprisingly calm.

Today was banding day for our little kestrels! Three male kestrels from our nesting box close to Hoch Road were banded and will be fledging or leaving their nest in the next few days. It was fun to watch research at work and are so thankful for Nicole and Ashlyn being willing to be peppered with questions! We've learned so much.

Nicole and Ashlyn are students working in partnership with Hawk Mountain and all the work they are doing is by state and federal permits. It is great to be a part of the research of these cool birds.

Hay day! We did a small batch - about 6 acres. It has been cooler but the wind helped to dry out the hay.

Springtime is always fun because its the time of year when I get my native plant garden set up for the year and see what has survived and what might be better growing somewhere else. The birds are really liking my concrete pool full of rocks, a small fountain and some new water loving native plants.

This used to be an old concrete cattle waterer in the barn that has been repurposed for something else: birdbath and glorified dog dish. 💙🐦

The live willow sculpture class we attended in April has inspired my dad to make this arbor in our garden. It is so fun to watch the new branches start coming out and think about how to start weaving them together.

I got to go on a field trip today! Country Sunrise Creamery in Myerstown hosted a Silvopasture Tour for policymakers and farmers at their dairy with PASA Sustainable Agriculture. It was so cool to see their tree plantings and learn about how they have incorporated fruit trees and chestnut trees on their farm. I gotta say, the ice cream was delicious and the conversation was inspiring.

And we have another farm that is interested in putting up american kestrel boxes. Us silvopasture nerds have so many coinciding interests. 😂🤓🤩

Goodness gracious the grass grew from that rain! Cora and the belties are doing some yard mowing for us and I'm downing allergy meds to keep my head from falling off and rolling away from feeling so heavy. 😄 All the grass has gone to seed at once and I'm sneezy! 🤧
