Chancellors Rock Farm Environmentally sustainable farm that also supports the native ecology of the Virginia Piedmont.

The magic of Chancellors Rock is getting to share what we grow with our community.

At our farm store there’s beef from cattle raised entirely on grass, pork from pigs raised in the woods and eggs gathered by hand. There are herbs to blend into your own cup of tea, golden honey, seasonal produce and beeswax candles that hold the warm glow of the season.

When you visit, take a moment to look out over the fields. That’s where your food comes from, and you’re welcome to see it for yourself.

Come find us at the farm store this weekend, or any day of the week. We’re open every day from 9 am to 6 pm.

At the heart of everything we do at Chancellors Rock is soil health, and our cattle are central to rebuilding it.

Meet Chuck Presgraves!  He’s been working with us for 8 years and tends to our cattle. We move our herd continuously, sometimes every day, giving time to our pastures to rest and recover.

This is how grasslands once worked when large herds roamed them, moving constantly and never overgrazing one spot.  This process of graze/rest/recover means our pastures rebound faster, resulting in fields with stronger root systems, unbroken soil/fungi connections, and soil fertilized naturally with manure.

The result is soil that holds more rainwater, stores more carbon and supports more life, both below and above the ground.

The cattle aren’t separate from the land. They’re how we heal it.

Learn how we raise our cattle at the link in bio.

Step into the Chancellors Rock garden this time of year and you’ll see it: bees drifting bloom to bloom, busy and unhurried all at once.

Every visit carries pollen from one flower to the next, and that quiet work is how our garden grows its best. Pollinators are some of the hardest workers on the farm, and they ask for nothing but flowers, clean soil and a little room to roam.

We’re so grateful for these tiny partners. So much of what grows here, from the garden beds to the wildflowers along the fields, begins with their work.

What’s your favorite flower for bringing in the bees? Tell us in the comments. 👇

I am loving our walled garden this year.  After struggling with the soil, post construction and the irrigation system, things are finally starting to thrive!  And this is one place I don’t have to worry about deer!

It’s a glorious time of year in the parterre garden. When you book a stay in the Cabin, you’ll have this private special garden all to yourself. The view out that back is just as lovely: perched on a big rock, the Cabin overlooks the headwaters of the Rapphannock River.
You can book the cabin by emailing [email protected]. It’s a perfect, private pcountry escape!

The goats are back! Working with Beth Bailey of , we are using goats to help eradicate invasive Autumn Olive in the woods. These goats are in the same area we hit last fall - we think it will take 3 separate grazings to really knock it back. Watch Rocky, the biggest goat of the herd, say hello here!

Joneve Murphy of has been creating a beautiful landscape art installation for us…. A 6’ woven sphere of hazel supported by a steel frame. We thought we’d show you a peek behind the curtain of what she’s creating! ✨

📍Look for it off the driveway to our house next time you’re at the farm!

One more throwback from our English adventure a few weeks ago! We had an amazing time visiting Charlie Burwell at in Sussex, learning all about their operation. 🌱

Charlie and his wife, Isabelle Tree, are the pioneers of the Wilding movement in England, focused on the idea of letting nature take the lead rather than tightly managing the land for fixed outcomes. Instead of trying to force a particular habitat, Knepp uses free-roaming cattle, ponies, pigs, and deer to create a shifting mosaic of scrub, grassland, wetland, and woodland that supports more wildlife.

The result has been a major biodiversity rebound - a 900% increase in birds, insects, dragonflies. We left inspired, and hopeful! 🦋
