Don’t throw out those skins! They can be easily cured into a long lasting piece of wall art or feathers for jewelry or fly tying!

-Wash removed skins in warm water and dawn dish soap

-Rinse in warm water

- Lay flat and CAREFULLY scrap all fats and bits of flesh(the skin tears easily)

-Rub thoroughly with borax and shake off access(salt can be substituted if using for dog training or treats)

-Stretch and pin to cork board or drywall

-Blow dry on cool to fluff feathers and dry completely

-Leave in cool dry environment for 3-4 weeks until skin is firm but flexible and no traces of oils are found.

Boy, do they just move the fresh air.

I think 2.5 - 3 weeks is my personal favorite point of their lives. They are just too adorable

🇺🇸❤️ Happy 250th Birthday, America! ❤️🇺🇸

As we celebrate 250 years of our nation's history, it's pretty incredible to think that coturnix quail and their wild relatives have been part of America's story for generations.

Long before modern homesteading became popular, families across the country raised quail and other poultry as a sustainable source of food. In fact, quail farming in the United States dates back well over a century, with commercial quail production becoming established in the early 1900s. Today, they're still helping families put fresh food on the table while connecting us to a simpler way of life.

Here at The Quail Co., we're proud to continue that tradition—raising our birds with care and celebrating the values of hard work, self-sufficiency, and agriculture that have helped shape America for generations.

Here's to 250 years of freedom, farming, family, and the traditions that continue to bring us together.

Happy Birthday, America! 🇺🇸🪶

A huge THANK YOU to the Flint Women's Forum for allowing us to share some of our quail eggs with all of the hardworking, incredible women in the group! 🥚💛

Yesterday's meeting highlighted the many amazing nonprofits making a difference throughout our community. We're excited to share that our own historic home will soon open to the public as the Aitken Farmhouse Foundation, where our quail will play an important role in teaching visitors about sustainable agriculture, homesteading, food systems, and responsible stewardship of the land. We can't wait to share that journey with all of you!

If you were lucky enough to grab a carton of our eggs, we'd love to hear what you think! Give our page a follow, cook them up, and come back to let us know how they were. We're a little partial, but we think our girls lay some pretty amazing eggs. 🐦🤍

Thank you again to the Flint Women's Forum for supporting local farms, small businesses, and the organizations working to strengthen our community. It truly means the world to us!

For everyone considering starting quail, this is what it looks like.

Too many vitamin rich eggs, too much meat that has zero hormones, zero antibiotics, fresh and delicious!

The turn around time is crazy, you get way too many too quickly. 16 days to hatch and 6 weeks to eggs and meat!? Hens that lay every single day? Who would want THAT?

Plus! You can use every single part of the bird for whatever your mind can come up with? Crazy. I guess just us weirdos are into self sustainable products with minimal effort. 🤷‍♀️

Bonus pic of some earrings I made from these useless birds 😜

Quail eggs are tiny nutrient powerhouses packed with high-quality protein, immune-boosting Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, and iron.

They are excellent for kids because they offer a concentrated, easily digestible source of vitamins that support brain development, promote strong bones, and provide a fun, bite-sized finger food.
