Mable and Jack Farmstead

Mable and Jack Farmstead Mable and Jack Farmstead sits on 22 acres located 30 minutes north of Huntsville just across the Tennessee state line.

The land has been in our family since 1917 and in 2022 we officially named the farm after a mare named Mable and a mule named Jack. We're a 22-acre family farm just above the Alabama state line. Follow our journey as we regenerate the land, one project at a time!

A breakfast so good I’ve had it two days in a row. More and more our plates are entirely local and this one is no exception, coffee included!

I am obsessed with these everything bagels from the Divergent Forge. I wasn't sure what to think whenever I saw that the everything seasoning was inside the bagel. I don't know that I could ever go back to a bagel with the everything seasoning on top because there is so much less mess, and it has all of that delicious flavor just inside the bagel.

I am loving the slicing tomatoes right now and putting them on basically every sandwich that I can. I enjoyed this yesterday with a yellow slicing tomato from the Madison County Farmers Market and today with a Sligo Farms slicing tomato, which is one of the most delicious red slicing tomatoes that I've ever tried.

For my coffee, I made an orange mint simple syrup yesterday from the Ironspring Orchard Orange Mint, and it might be my favorite mint syrup I've ever tried. It has such a delicious, bright flavor. I have added it to some Texas Coffee Traders decaf espresso and a little splash of Foundry Farms milk.

I've been amazed to see how our grocery list has changed so significantly since we started the Hub. What used to be about 75% of our groceries coming from the grocery store and about 25% of it being local is now flipped, where 75% of the food (sometimes more in peak produce season) is coming entirely from local sources. We're really only going to the grocery store when we need a specialty item that's shelf-stable or some staple products like olive oil. That's just really satisfying as people who like to cook from home, and we love to eat our own food and have the best quality local ingredients that we can trace directly back to a farm.

Local has always been a priority for Chris and me, but even still, even with going out of our way to buy local, it still wasn’t possible to get as much as we wanted from all of our local sources on a regular basis.

That’s what’s been so game-changing about the hub: just how convenient local food is and being able to reach so many different products. I think right now in the store we have over 600 local products, and it’s just amazing

Our home has always been our favorite restaurant in town and we always get the best ingredients from .

Tonight’s steak frites are entirely local down to the rendered lard for the fries. Chris crushed it with the fries and perfectly cooked steak. I made a little mocktail with the Free Hearts Bramble syrup, some fermented whey lemonade (so good!!) and sparkling water.

The Huntsville food scene just took a giant leap with . We popped over to finally give it a try while they are soft opening and were so delighted by everything we tried. I’m so impressed by their intentionality in ingredient sourcing and approach to the menu. Looking forward to many more meals here!

We celebrated Chris’ birthday yesterday the only way we know how: a day full of good food! Started the morning with homemade croissants and ended it with foccacia pizza inspired by our favorite spot .vito_focacceria.

In so many corners of our home you will find . I first discovered Tori’s products in Nashville which turned into a deep admiration and love for the brand.

I now have the opportunity to work alongside Tori and these products have found their way into nearly every part of my daily rhythms.

My morning skincare routine isn’t complete without Liver Mend, Golden Sun Serum and Copper Peptide Serum. I freaking love the tonifying deodorant spray and now use it as a toner on my face too.

Adaptogen chai with milk and maple syrup is there for me when I need to calm the day away and as an anxious girlie Altered States is a freaking godsend when my stress spikes. I literally keep it at my desk so it’s there when I need it.

I picked up the Roots and Bones tea in the spring release and will be cycling that into my morning tea ritual. I’m also excited to try Maiden Polish and Foragers Oxymel.

Chris took dust bowl to survive allergy season and we both love Bitter Beginning for digestion.

I sprinkle the herby mushroom salts on literally everything and they really do make everything better (especially scrambled eggs).

But I truly can’t say enough about the quality of these products. We’ve tried so many “natural” or sustainable brands and been disappointed by the lack of efficacy or ingredients lists. Not only is Cedar Hill formulated by Tori who is an herbalist, they source from small farms, make things by hand, AMD they actually work.

I’ve seen a tangible difference in my skin and my overall quality of life because of these products. They feel like little luxuries in my day.

In a world where everything is so accessible and available there’s something so special and sacred about buying from a brand like Cedar Hill. There’s simply no comparison out there.

And if you’re near Nashville or want a great day trip you MUST visit the Apothecary in Springfield. So many beautiful small brands curated into the cutest store with the best gals. It’s 10/10 worth the drive.
