What if creativity could change the way we see waste? 🎨♻️

Using recycled materials like bottles, cans, and egg cartons, Selestino Malagon transforms everyday waste into functional, meaningful art. He reminds us that recycling isn’t just a practice, it’s a shared responsibility among
us all.

This Earth Month, we’re inspired by associates like Selestino who prove that creativity can save the planet, one reimagined material at a time.

For Chef TJ, this work is about more than filling roles. Through his partnership with SCOPE310 at , TJ is helping create opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build skills, gain confidence, and move closer to living independently.

Proud to share this story about what’s possible when people feel supported, included, and given the chance to shine. 💜

We’re proud to have two incredible chefs representing Chartwells at next week’s Women in Culinary Showcase!

💜 Toni Thomas, executive chef at Baylor University, brings a passion for food, family, and culture inspired by her grandparents’ kitchen.
💜 Sky Atwood, executive chef at Central Michigan University, began her journey in her mom’s restaurant and now leads with creativity and connection at every campus event.

Join us in celebrating their talent, leadership, and impact as they head to Charlotte to connect with other talented women chefs across Compass Group.

We knew our team showed up in a big way during the blizzard at Sacred Heart University, but we didn't expect the response that followed. Guests, students, staff, and parents sent messages that honestly stopped us in our tracks. Take a look at what they had to say:

For 23 years, Clarice “Ms. Reese” Reed has served more than meals at Xavier University. She’s served comfort, encouragement, and a huge heart to generations of students.

Moments that Matter is our short video series celebrating the people who make campus feel like home, and Ms. Reese is the definition of that.

From “fussing” at students to bundle up in the cold to helping nervous first-years settle in, her care has shaped the Xavier experience in lasting ways. We’re thrilled to see her receive a well-deserved award for the impact she’s made across campus.

Watch her story:

Food should never be a barrier to education.

Today we’re launching United Through Food, a nationwide initiative focused on reducing food waste and supporting efforts to strengthen food security across our campuses.

With 56% of students reporting challenges accessing food, sustained action matters. Throughout the year, we’re partnering with our teams and campus communities to turn dining into spaces of impact. American University’s dining team is putting people and planet first. In partnership with the Food Recovery Network and the Office of Sustainability, their food recovery efforts divert food waste from the landfill to help feed the local community. When food can’t be donated, it’s responsibly composted. 💚🍽️ Since the fall semester, the team has avoided over 6000 lbs of food from going to waste.

Thank you to the American University team for building a responsible food system with their local community.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring call to serve others with compassion and purpose. His message reminds us that meaningful change can often happen in small, everyday moments. It shows up in how we treat one another, how we listen, and how we care for the communities around us.

As we reflect on Dr. King’s message, we recognize the role each of us plays in creating spaces rooted in respect, belonging and hope.

Wishing all a reflective MLK Jr. Day.
