We’ve kept this pretty quiet over the past few weeks because, honestly, it was an incredibly hard decision for our family to make and one we needed a little time to process.

This morning our cows left for their new home in Iowa, and to say we were all a wreck would be an understatement.

What started as a simple idea turned into something that meant so much more to our family than we ever expected. Dolly, Reba, Lucy, Willie Nelson, Toby, and little Lainey became part of our daily rhythm, our conversations, our quiet moments outside, and honestly a form of therapy in ways I didn’t even realize I needed.

They taught me patience.
They taught me to slow down.
They reminded me that sometimes the simple, quiet things in life are exactly what your soul needs.

I learned more than I ever expected about cattle, genetics, breeding, and building something from the ground up- but more than that, I learned a lot about myself through this journey.

In this season of life, between family, kids, and growing our business, it simply became too much to carry everything well. Making the decision to pause this chapter was incredibly hard, but we know they are going to a wonderful home where they’ll stay together and be deeply cared for.

For now, The Oaks Cattle Co. is taking a pause.

But this chapter meant too much to us to believe it’s the end. Hopefully one day, when life slows down a little, we’ll be able to open this chapter again.

Until then, we’re incredibly grateful for everything these animals brought into our lives- the lessons, the peace, the laughter, and the memories our kids will carry forever.

And to our sweet herd…
thank you for being exactly what we needed for the time we had you. ❤️

The whole herd has officially been introduced and we’ve had a big week over here 🤍🐮

Toby is officially off the bottle and fully back on Dolly like a big boy and doing great!

Although… nobody told him there were other boys in the pasture now. Let’s just say he was a little confused when he went looking for milk on Willie Nelson 🤣🥛

Some love stories don’t need an audience… apparently they just need a pasture. 🤍

We found out today that Lucy is officially 5–6 months bred to Willie Nelson.

So while we were out here feeding hay and minding our business… these two were quietly writing their own little love story.

I guess those long stares across the fence weren’t just for show. 🐮✨

Safe to say Willie Nelson understood the assignment. 😉

Both results are in 💕
Our sweet babies are chondro positive.

That just means they carry the Highland “short-leg” gene that gives them that extra fluffy, teddy-bear look we all love. Totally healthy, just built a little closer to the ground 🐮🤍

We’re as obsessed as they are with eachother 🫶🏼

We never, ever planned to be bottle feeders.
We fully believe in dam-raised calves and letting mamas do what they’re meant to do.

But sometimes farm life has other plans.

When mama came down with mastitis and then injured her other teats, her body just couldn’t produce what little Toby needed. So for now, we’re stepping in and supplementing him to make sure he stays strong, healthy, and thriving.

This isn’t the plan—but it is the right thing for him.
And at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. 🤍

Meet sweet little Toby 🤍🐮

“A little less talk and a lot more action…” felt pretty fitting for this guy’s arrival 💪🏼

Mama Dolly did such a good job, but needed just a little help at the finish line and she trusted me enough to let me bring Toby into the world with my own two hands. A moment I’ll never forget.

He is the cutest, sweetest little thing, and with the cold weather we brought him inside for a bit to get him warm and settled, hence the indoor pic 💛

With both babies now on the ground, warm, loved, and doing well, all is well around here and our hearts are full.

Welcome to the world, Toby
