50% off days are dangerous around here! 🌿💚
A kinda local greenhouse had everything 50% off today, and I managed to spend less than I did on my last trip while bringing home over double the plants. I’d call that a success! 😅
Today’s haul included a beautiful large cactus, bear paw succulents, string of pearls, several new succulents, agave, rosemary, oregano, and the cutest little Corsican mint with the tiniest leaves. It smells just like spearmint, and I am absolutely in love with it.
I also discovered a co**se cactus bloom today. I kept smelling something awful and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Then I spotted the most beautiful flower and thought, “Wow, that’s gorgeous!” One sniff later… instant regret. 😂 Beautiful flowers, horrible smell!
Of course, Turkey Girl’s little poults had to come investigate what we were doing in the greenhouse today. They made sure every new plant met their approval before heading back outside. 🦃🌱
My greenhouse is quickly becoming my happy place. Needless to say, my plant addiction is alive and well… but plants are cheaper than therapy. 😂💚

✨ After weeks of patiently waiting, she finally opened… and she was worth every second. 💚

My Sweetheart Hoya decided to show off today with the most beautiful little cluster of star-shaped blooms. It’s amazing how something so tiny can bring so much joy.

One of my favorite parts of growing plants is the reminder that not everything happens quickly. Sometimes the prettiest things take their time. 🌿✨

🐾 Well, today’s homestead adventure wasn’t one we signed up for.

Someone decided the responsible thing to do was apparently drive out to the country and dump two dogs instead of handling the situation like adults. Thankfully, the dogs are safe and being cared for, because as usual, the animals are paying the price for human decisions.

Let this be a reminder: rehoming posts and local rescues exist for a reason. Abandoning animals isn’t “giving them a better life”—it’s simply passing your responsibility onto someone else.

We’re grateful these dogs ended up somewhere they would be helped, but not everyone is so lucky.

Please do better. Animals deserve better. ❤️🐾

🌿✨ A Woodland Find ✨🌿

While walking the woods on our property today, we came across these beautiful Ghost Pipes (Monotropa uniflora), sometimes called Indian Pipe. These fascinating plants aren’t actually mushrooms, but they’re not typical green plants either. Since they don’t contain chlorophyll, they get their nutrients through a relationship with fungi in the forest soil.

Their ghostly white color and delicate appearance make them look almost otherworldly, and spotting them is always a special treat. They usually appear in shady hardwood forests after periods of rain and can be a sign of a healthy woodland ecosystem.

⚠️ A quick disclaimer: Ghost Pipe has a long history of traditional and folk medicinal use, and you’ll find a lot of information online about it. However, I am not a doctor, herbalist, or medical professional, and this post is for educational purposes only. Planted some pawpaw seeds today and tucked a few more along the creek. We also checked on the seeds we planted last year. A few are definitely pawpaws, and a few are still questionable, but I’m hopeful.

Maybe one day we’ll have our own little pawpaw patch growing along the creek here at Williams Homestead. 🌱🌳

Pawpaws are North America’s largest native fruit and are often called the “forgotten fruit.” They grow naturally in wooded creek bottoms and produce a sweet, tropical-tasting fruit that’s often compared to banana, mango, and vanilla custard. They can take several years to mature, but they’re well worth the wait.

Here’s to planting trees we’ll enjoy for years to come. 💚

Life lately on the homestead 🐓🌱

Turkey Girl's poults are growing up fast! She's misplaced a few here and there along the way, but she's been a wonderful mama and keeps those babies busy exploring. The greenhouse is finally coming to life with blooms popping up everywhere, and it seems like every time I turn around there's another egg hidden somewhere on the farm.

Between the babies growing, flowers blooming, and eggs showing up in the most unexpected places, it's safe to say the homestead is keeping us busy and our hearts full. ❤️

WELCOME TO ✨Adult Summer Camp at Williams Homestead✨
Where the activities could include:
• goat yoga (good luck focusing)
• campfire dinners & questionable storytelling
• s’mores made with whatever chocolate survived the heat in the truck
• sleeping under the stars while a goose screams at 3am
• brushing your teeth in the water trough beside the livestock because ✨nature✨
• emotional support chickens available upon request
• late night greenhouse talks while feeding fish
• one free mosquito bite souvenir included with admission

Honestly this started as a joke after seeing one of those “planting class summer camp” posts… but now I’m convinced this would actually be the best time ever 😂

So if hanging out on a chaotic homestead, eating by the fire, camping, laughing till your stomach hurts, and pretending we all don’t have responsibilities sounds fun… we are now accepting friendship applications 🏕️🐐🔥

Must be okay with dirt, animal hair, random farm emergencies, and Kevin the rooster potentially choosing violence.

Today we managed to get a bunch of things planted in the garden 🪏🌱 Every single year I say I’m going to cut back… and honestly I really did on tomatoes this year 😂 But somehow I still have over 100 tomato plants I’ve been trying to sell, and if nobody comes to get them they’re probably ending up in the garden too.

We’re also planning another garden this year just for the bigger stuff like pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe, and a few different squash varieties. Today we planted asparagus beans (they’re like a green bean/asparagus mix and I’m SO excited to try them), sweet potatoes, okra, Brussels sprouts… I think? 😂 The label disappeared. We also planted peppers — a bunch of different kinds with still more to add — cucumbers, trombone squash, and more.

Already growing in the ground we’ve got birdhouse gourds, onions, garlic, potatoes, peas, and asparagus! Every year this place grows a little bigger and somehow a little crazier, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything 🌿🐝🚜
