Today marks the beginning of the Learning from the Bees conference.

This year, the thoughtful group of folks at Spikenard Honey Bee Sanctuary has graciously agreed to usher in the conference as this is the first time it’s been in the United States, and part of it will be held right here at the Floyd EcoVillage.

The FEV Farm has had the honor of providing a significant portion of the produce for the meals, too. Most of the produce, meat, grains and other products for the conference have been sourced from local businesses and neighboring farms.

It’s been an honor to contribute to the local food movement, and where better to do so than in Floyd, VA?!

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the farms who have generously supplied nutritious food for this event.

Jack, a board member at Spikenard, invests a significant amount of time and energy into their powerful cause. He visits the beehives at the EcoVillage almost daily and ensures that we have an abundance of healthy flowers for them to forage on. Thank you, Jack! The bees truly appreciate it!

Last but certainly not least, we must express our deepest gratitude to the BEES!!!

These incredible creatures are bringing us all together. Just like the harmonious buzz of a hive, the buzzing around the EcoVillage has been electrifying!

While it may seem at times a bit chaotic, it has resulted in something really beautiful.

As the seasons change, leaves turn, plants wither, and animals scurry about preparing for winter, people from all walks of life gather and connect to share in the bountiful harvest of what we have prospered. What a wonderful world it can bee when we choose to co-create it! 🙏🐝 🌏

Some photos of the farm from the amazing Amie Slate (and a few of her)!

This land is so blessed to have her presence here. She’s more than a community member, she’s the real deal, flip-flops-to-the-ground, type gal.

This woman is often found outside helping tend to the land, weeding the farm, planting trees, mowing paths, removing invasive species while educating us along the way on how we can help, and yes, that’s her sharing yummy treats from her garden and offering you seeds at the mini market on Wednesdays!
