PSA from Wisconsin: Did you know the American chestnut tree is all but extinct? About 1904, a blight from Asia started to decimate this American hardwood tree, primarily found in Appalachia/Eastern U.S. -By 1950, BILLIONS of chestnut trees were lost to blight. Dr Robert Dunstan, a plant breeder and professor, developed a blight resistant hybrid chestnut tree in the 1950s/60s that is finally starting to bring the tree species back in significant ways. The tree is very valuable today for its lumber and nuts.

Today, tree hugger me, planted 60 Dunstan hybrid chestnuts on our farm. A small chestnut grove in Fond du Lac County. 🌳 🎉🚜😊 (Yeah, LOTS of cardio today!😳)
