Rene' and Anne Berblinger began farming in the Gales Creek Valley in western Washington County in 1999. Adam Baratta, Kimberly DeLanghe, and Robin Johnson will be our full-time crew for 2011, Chris Burtch, Norman Hamilton, Francizka Monahan, and Laurel Berblinger are our part-time workers. Some of our employees are aspiring to be farmers on their own, and three former employees have started their

own farms after working with us for a few seasons. Our farm, on the northeast side of Gales Creek Road, includes 9 flat acres of wonderful soil, a steep wooded hillside - the west side of Clapshaw Hill - and a riparian area with cottonwoods. We produce more than 300 varieties of great tasting and beautiful vegetables and herbs. Many of our varieties are heirlooms. Early in the season, we sell starts of hardy vegetables including beets, onions, lettuce, and chard. In May, we have starts of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, squash, and cucumbers. We have more than 40 varieties of tomatoes, more than 20 sweet and hot peppers, and about five kinds of eggplant. Throughout the whole season, we have herb starts and our popular leaf lettuce starts, which are pots containing 10-30 plants of many varieties of lettuce. Verdura Gardens uses our starts for the gardens they build for customers throughout the Portland region. As the season progresses, we offer the best familiar spring, summer and fall vegetables and many unusual varieties. Our farming practices build the soil and provide habitat for wildlife including native plants, insects, birds, and microbes. We have been certified Organic by Oregon Tilth since 2001. In addition to the Hollywood Farmers Market (May - October), we can be found at the, Hillsdale Farmers Market (March-May), and Cannon Beach Farmers Market (August and September). Restaurants which use our products include Bon Appetit at Intel, Genoa, EVOO at Cannon Beach, Nostrana, Daily Cafe in the Pearl, Vino Paradiso, and Fleur de Lis French Bakery. And those fabulous Ruby Jewel Treats . . . the mint and lavender for the ice cream comes from Gales Meadow Farm.

Will our Gales Meadow blend of cat grass make your kitty’s ear hair more luxurious? I can’t say for sure but it’s worth a shot!… ask Elvira!

Well gee, it’s MARCH!
We’ve been very busy planting and planning and goofing off and then all of a sudden… it’s MARCH.
We’ll be this week (March 7th) from 9-1pm with eggs, apple butter and quince paste, cold hardy starts like kale, lettuce, snap peas, chard and more.
We also start at this upcoming Wednesday (3/11).
We look forward to seeing our early bird home gardeners in the next few weeks!

Things are happening around here because it’s spring!

Hellllo there Friends and Family!
My social media duties have been neglected over the last year but I’m committed to keeping our loyal friends updated this year, 2026!
2025 was busy, chaotic and at times difficult. There were lots of successes and some disappointments. Overall a pretty good season.
I’ve included some highlights from 2025 in the photos. Including Anne’s birthday, Renè and Norman playing music and our newest family member, Frankie (Frankfurter Berblinger is his government name)! I’m hoping to keep you informed of our schedules, plant sales, farmers markets and special events as the season progresses.
To kick off we will be having friend of the farm and family .cardoon joining us this weekend (SATURDAY JANUARY 17th)! Charlene from .cardoon will have her farm made vinegars and special strawberry rye bread ginger crisps and more!
See her .cardoon page for more info!

With big love,
Your pals at Gales Meadow Farm

Are we already creeping the end of fall/beginning of winter? My guess would be a hearty YES, considering the wild weather recently. The coast range has snow, we’ve had a few solid frosts and rain. And more rain.
This week is the last before thanksgiving! Stop by and load up on onions, squash, leeks, rosemary, all your favorite hot sauces, plum jam, apple butter, paprika and more. We look forward to seeing you!

Our van decided to take a short winter break , so if you missed us last week please know we missed you too.

After the end of November, will switch to the winter schedule. The markets will be the first and third Saturday of each month. We’ll also be doing a fun extra artisan and art market on December 7th. Follow for more info or come by tomorrow for a flier with more info.

This is the peak time to start planting tomatoes in the Portland area, and Oh Boy! do we have tomatoes! I posted the lists of varieties which will probably be cut short in the photos. You’ll be able to see the whole list with descriptions at the markets! All of our varieties are heirloom/open-polinated (with the exception of Sungold. Such a great hybrid we can’t help ourselves!). They are all short season varieties that will do well in our Oregon summer climate. Treat yourself or a mama you know for mother’s day to the perfect selection of varieties for you!
We’ll see you Saturdays and on Wednesdays

Peppers, tomatillos and Ashwagandha will be coming very soon!

Many of you have met April at our markets and at the farm. She’s been with us for many years, in many rolls. April has a health issue and will be having a surgery on Wednesday of this week.

April has been with us since was a student in the Organic Farm Systems class that Anne taught at Pacific University in 2016. Since then she’s played many rolls in our day to day farm work including taking on the last year of growing pumpkins for Tillamook Preschool. If you’ve been to our markets you’ve surely met April!
For those of you that are spiritual we ask that you send all the well wishes and sincere prayers to our friend April.

Despite the chilly wet weather, signs of spring are everywhere! Including the beautiful babies that will be hatching soon.
1. Our Blondie chicken on her established nest with Twinkle sitting on top of her. Twinkle wants all the glory without the work and Blondie is barely tolerating it.
2. One of at least 5 praying mantis egg sacks that I found today.
3&4. Last years praying mantis friends
5. Mama spider fiercely protecting her eggs. Honestly, kind of a gross picture but spiders are really important in our ecosystem and I put her nest in a safe place until it hatches, when I will retrieve my pot.

Time flies during tomato season!
This week we’ll bring a teaser round of tomatoes to on April 27th! For those of you ready to get started early! Just keep an eye on the temperatures because if they dip low in the middle of the week as expected you may want to protect them!
Each week we will be bringing more varieties of tomato starts, as well as all the good greens and herbs that can tolerate cool and hot and everything in between!

See you soon and !
