Pop Quiz 🐝
What you’re seeing here is natural beeswax honeycomb, built entirely by the bees—cell by cell—in an experimental hive without frames.

Without frames to guide them, the bees design freely, following instinct, geometry, and purpose.

This particular comb has already served the hive and will now be melted down, cleaned, and carefully filtered into pure beeswax—ready to become part of my skin care formulations.

Bees consume 6–8 pounds of honey to produce just 1 pound of wax, which makes every ounce precious.

What in the world is this? 🤔🐑

These are my fleece drying & skirting racks—built to care for raw sheep fleece after shearing. They allow airflow from all sides so the fleece can dry naturally and be properly skirted (removing debris and rough edges) without being on the ground. Better for the fiber… and better for my back.

This step matters because the fleece has multiple futures here on the homestead:
• some will be first-extract lanolin for my Skin Revival skincare line
• some will become handmade rugs
• and some will be reserved for spinning and weaving on the loom

Same fleece. Different purposes. From sheep to skin to fiber.

Homestead projects don’t always look fancy—but they’re built with intention.

Oh, the adventures at the Wool & Wings Homestead.

I set out to build a collapsible 4 x 6 skirting table for my fleece using Stanley collapsible sawhorses. Easy enough… or so I thought.

The first issue showed up immediately: a 1 x 2 from the whalebone lumber section of Home Depot. It had an arc like nobody’s business and promptly exited stage left by snapping when it fell. Solution? Reinforce it with another 4-foot span.

I was doing this whole project in the dark with a headlamp on and didn’t realize my staples were way too long. So after everything was assembled, I discovered staples poking through the back of the wood. Out came the multitool to grind them all down. Problem solved.

The finish line was in sight… until I did the wing nut dance to remove the bolts so I could release the chicken wire from the sawhorses. And then it hit me.

The table wasn’t releasing. At all.

Why? Because those glorious extra-long staples had gone all the way through and attached the entire “collapsible” table directly to the sawhorse frame.

Have you ever tried extracting 2 1/2 inch pneumatic staples from lumber? Several bloodied fingers and knuckles later — success. The final staple released and narrowly missed turning this into a chipped-tooth story.
