This is a question I’ve received frequently from friends and family since launching Rieger Cattle Co.

When I first moved back home and started getting more involved with our cattle operation I thought it would feel unethical to consume our own beef. In fact, to this day my mom still doesn’t let my dad and I share with her when we are loading cattle up to take them to their final destination. However, when people ask me this question I usually respond by saying, “It makes me feel good to know that we were able to provide our animals with quality care and nutrition thought the entirety of their lives. They weren’t pumped full of hormones or genetics for increased rate of gain benefits. They were just as God intended cattle to be. I’m at peace with knowing exactly what is in my beef and how it has been grown from start to finish.”

For me it’s going back to the basics and eliminating the unknowns in our food supply.

Last week we were able to celebrate Christmas together as a team. We couldn’t be more thankful for everyone’s hard-work each and every day. It takes a lot to keep it all going and we owe another successful year to everyone at this table. 🎄🙏🏼

We had another delicious meal catered by who always outdoes themselves. 🍽️

Our mission at Rieger Farms has always centered around providing a healthy, sustainable food and feed source. This applies to not only to our grain farming operation but our beef cattle as well. In fact, did you know that over 80% of the products fed to our cattle are grown domestically on our own specialty farms?

Did you know our soybeans are what tofu is made of???

This year we had the opportunity to grow some clear hilum soybeans for the first time. Once we harvest them they are shipped off to be made into tofu for human consumption. A clear hilum bean doesn’t have the black bellybutton like the bean in the second photo does. 🫛

ISU let us play professor for a day. 👩🏻‍🏫

We had a great time meeting and sharing our passion for growing organic crops with some ISU ag students. They had a lot of great questions for Professor Troy and we hope to have them back next year!
