Saw a rabbit post about breeding siblings. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with breeding full siblings as long as you’re willing to cull. If you aren’t willing to cull…well you shouldn’t be breeding anything period. Rabbits aren’t humans, they couldn’t care less if they’re related.

Line breeding isn’t a problem in rabbits because it only shows genes your rabbits already have hiding in their DNA. You can have those same genes show up in completely unrelated rabbits. It doesn’t create problems that aren’t already there, it only brings them out where you can see them and actually do something about them. I won’t buy from breeders who refuse to linebreed because it makes me think they know they have negative genes hiding in their lines and instead of fixing them, they want to just keep them from showing up in their barn so they can pretend they don’t have a problem.

People can do what they want in their own barns, but telling other people linebreeding is bad and it should never be done is just ignorance of how genes actually work. If the genes aren’t already there, they won’t show. End of story.

Breed the rabbits not their papers. Breed the best and eat the rest.
