A rare photo of Quiara and Baby in the same vicinity as each other 🤣

I think everyone is exhausted after all that rain and snow over the last 24 hours, because these two are NOT friends.

Baby, you guessed it, was the first Highland I raised from a young age. I got her when she was 6 months old, while all my other girls I landed when they were closer to a year old. So naturally I only could call her Baby.

Anyways, Baby was so much younger than our other Highlands she really didn’t have anyone to hangout with and I desperately wanted her to have a buddy 🥺 she was a loner.

A few months later I was given the opportunity to purchase Q, and I was super excited for many obvious reasons but most importantly I thought this would be perfect! Baby and Q could be friends.

Well. This isn’t a fairy tail 😅 this is real life and as things go in most herds, a pecking order was established. I figured Baby and Q would be happy together at the bottom of that pecking order. But instead they constantly fought, for WHO was going to be second to last, and who would be last.

Eventually Q became more dominant and it helped that the older Highlands adopted her into their girl gang. Baby remained a loner, but she is my loner. She’s my friend, and that’s just how it’s going to be.

Years have gone by and these two are rarely in the same area of the corral or pasture, so I had to document the moment today when I saw Baby within 10 feet of Q 😆

She gets right in the mix of all the big dawgs and has no idea she’s a calf.

My beautiful HighBelt babies 😍

Since I mentioned we will be looking to rehome all our HighBelt cattle this year I just wanted address a few topics!

First and foremost, if you are a serial “ghoster” aka, you constantly ask me about cattle and consistently ghost me when I respond, I’m probably just tired of the marry-go-round with you. I truly don’t mean to sound harsh, but it’s exhausting and these cattle are far too important to me for those types of games.

Okay now that we have that out of the way…yes, we will be rehoming the entire HighBelt herd this year.

We are still awaiting genetic test results on the most recent calves.

I will NOT be separating cows and calves, everyone will go as a pair.

I am going to be very picky about where my cows end up. Please understand that I am not selling them because I want to but because I know it’s the right thing for them. My bulls are not “mini” or “mid sized mini” which doesn’t make them a great fit for my HighBelts.

They aren’t even officially on the market and I’m not sure when they will be. Their calves are too young to travel and I’m not planning on rushing them out the door for the sake of a sale. I will be posting about them and talking about them, but this decision isn’t one I’m taking lightly.

I will not consider any inexperienced breeders. Simply put, when I purchased my HighBelt girls I was inexperienced in the world of Highland cattle, not cattle, just Highlands. I wasn’t sure what direction I’d be going in-and now I know I feel most at home raising full sized, purebred, registered Scottish Highlands. They deserve a home that will be prioritizing their needs.

This is not a rehoming post, this is an informative post for anyone who might be interested in them with the time comes.

MANIFESTING THE MOISTURE!!!! 🙏🙏🙏❄️❄️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️

Colorado is set to get slammed with a storm that could be one for the record books, and Lord knows our pastures NEED IT.

I took these photos around Christmas, it’s sad to think we’ve only had 1-2 dustings of snow over the winter and spring. We need this moisture so bad it hurts.

I want to see my girls out on the pasture this summer but it simply won’t happen without some help from the big guy up above. If you are the praying kind, please send prayers out west that the sky opens up and dumps the moisture we so desperately need.

Pray that the livestock will stay safe and this 100 year old ranch will hold strong through the weather!

Pssst…Insider information! If you scrolled down to read this far, I’m letting you in on a little secret. This will more than likely be the last HighBelt calf born here with Heart & Sol Highland Cattle, not because we don’t love them, but because we love them so much! My HighBelt girls deserve the best and when I’m focused on AHCA registered genetics, I don’t want to put them on the back burner. If you are picking up what I’m preliminarily putting down?
