Tomorrow marks the start of the Polk County Youth Fair, Inc..
The first “Polk County Youth Agricultural Show” was held in Bartow in November 1947, From the beginning, the Fair has provided a means for the youth of Polk County, in 4-H Clubs and in chapters of FFA and FCCLA to display exhibits of their projects, and to compete as individuals with one another and against the highest standards of perfection in a program serving to promote the educational development of the youth of the county.
Now in its 79th year, the Polk County Youth Fair, held at the Polk County Agriculture Complex,
1702 Us-17 S, includes livestock shows, plant exhibits and leadership development opportunities tied to agricultural education programs. Events include market hog shows, cattle and poultry exhibitions, horse shows, plant and horticulture displays and domestic skills competitions such as baking and other project-based entries. Approximately 1400 students are expected to participate.
On Tuesday, Mayor Tanya Tucker presented a proclamation designating Jan. 23 - 31 as Polk County Youth Fair Week, which was accepted by Polk County Youth Fair President Scott Fowler, Polk County Youth Ambassador Advisor Luke Fountain and Lakeland Christian FFA Member & Polk County Youth Fair Ambassador Mattie Fountain.
