Working in the bee yard in this sweltering Georgia heat means you have to get a little creative when it comes to staying cool! 🥵🐝☀️

Apparently, less clothing is part of the strategy too. 🤣 I will say…it certainly left me and the camera a little distracted! Hahaha! 👀😂

We are counting down the days until cooler weather!
🍂🙌 But until then, we gotta do what we gotta do to beat this Georgia heat! 🥵🐝

🐝🍯 How do we safely remove bees before extracting honey?

First, we use fume boards. The scent encourages the bees to move down out of the honey boxes. Timing is important—we can’t leave the fume boards on too long, or the queen may decide to leave the hive too!

Next, we use a leaf blower. It may sound a little unusual, but it’s one of the quickest and safest ways to clear any remaining bees from the honey supers. The bees simply fly right back to the hive, where their queen is waiting for them.

Once the supers are bee-free, they’re ready to head to the honey house for extraction.

It’s just one of the many steps it takes to bring that delicious bottle of honey from our hives to your table. 🍯💛🐝 Every jar represents countless hours of work—both by our bees and by us!
