Wink’s Barbeque is proud to take part in Tyler’s Drive for Life charity BBQ contest in Slidell, LA this weekend. I grew up here... a much smaller town back then though. Looking forward to seeing old friends and cooking some good barbeque... maybe win some hardware too!

Well, I think it’s official! Wink’s Barbeque is in a funk! We didn’t do as well this weekend at the BamaQ Capitol City Cookoff as we’re used to. We placed 18th out of 29 fabulous cook teams. I didn’t feel like we delivered our best work and it showed. We will be making little heading changes until we get back on course... starting at the Smokin’ on the Square contest in Pensacola, FL in a few weeks. Thanks to all of the well wishers (almost 100) going into the Montgomery contest. It means a lot to us!

Well, Wink’s Barbeque is off to a great start to the 2019 Barbeque season! We had the good fortune to win reserve grand champion at the Butts & Clucks Cookoff on the Bay in Apalachicola, FL. Congratulations to our great friend Tim Maloy with Backyard Bro’s on his second Grand Champion win in a row! Couldn’t think of anybody I would wanted to come in second to more.

Well, after a rough start, we made it to Decatur, AL to compete in the Riverfest BBQ and Music Fest last weekend. We got a 5th in ribs, 2nd in brisket, and 6th overall. Not what we were hoping for but nothing to complain about either! Got to see Kellie Pickler sing a few songs too!

Now, got to throw a call out to Kevin and Jordan at the The Butcher Shoppe in Pensacola! Robin and I have had the great pleasure of knowing them and being the benefactor of their top notch customer service for several years now. If it can be said we do pretty good, they surely have a role in that! Thanks for all you do for us guys! Check out this beast for next weekend!

Everyone should have a great Paw Paw! Wink Yelverton’s and my grandparents passed away a long time ago. But we were blessed when Bruce Papaw Nidy (without hesitation) loaned us his F350 so we could come to Decatur. We were in a jam. Our F350 is still in the shop being repaired from a wreck in July. It was supposed to be ready but they let us down. I reached out to a couple of people. Bobby Lankford reminded me that Bruce lived near us. Now bear in mind Bruce doesn’t really know us. Well from BBQ contests and his son-in-law is the meat market manager at our Winn Dixie.

But he doesn’t really know us. I sent him a private message and he called me in under a minute and told Wink he would have the keys in his truck for us to go get it. Folks - it doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you so much for letting us use your truck. We had a lot of money already spent on meat and entry fees. It really saved the weekend.

BBQ family is really family!!! Thank you Bruce we really appreciate it.

Hattiesburg is in the books. Brian and HBurg put on an awesome contest. Wink’s Grand Champion! Congrats to Laddy and Fat, Drunk and Stupid with RGC and Jackie Price with 3rd and all that got calls.

Wink’s had a wonderful time cooking Hammond. A couple of extra days with great friends in New Orleans. Wayne Blessing Kim Hicks Timothy Durno.

We had a solid cook today. 23 Chicken(comment card smells antiseptic🤷‍♀️), 12 place ribs (won our table), 14th Pork,2nd place Brisket with a 7th overall finish!

Congrats to Smokin Butt Heads on RGC and Iowa Smoky Ds on Grand Champion.

Eric and Jodie Gieseler put on an amazing contest. Glad we cooked this on. We look forward to next year.

Well, Wink’s Barbeque was humbled this weekend at Flames on the Flint in Bainbridge, GA! We got skunked and a 19th place finish out of 42 teams. The only way to look at it is, we finish in the top 10 way more often than 19th! For that, I am thankful and blessed. Our experience this weekend and a post from one of my cousins reminded me of one of my favorite scriptures. Hope it inspires and touches you like it does me.

“...ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Col. 1:9-12

A great weekend in Apopka. Winks competed with 64 professional teams. We ended up with 31st chicken (??), 7th place Ribs, 10th place Pork and 1st place Brisket for a 3rd place overall finish. Congrats to Crazy Train with RGC and Pig Chika Cow Cow for for Grand Champion!! Those guys are on fire!!

I’m blessed beyond anything I deserve - I got to parade Friday night with Vicki Arnold Hanbury then rode with Susan Arnold Carleton to Apopka. So much fun this weekend. I was so sleepy last night. I apologize for going to bed!!
