We’ve gained a lot of new followers over the last month, so we figured it was a good time to reintroduce ourselves and answer a few frequently asked questions!
If you’re new here, welcome! We’re glad you’re here. If you’ve been here a while, thank you so much. We appreciate you all! ❤️
Before it all started, our owner was always baking something. It started with pies, and after multiple 1st and 2nd place ribbons at the Allen County Fair, followed by a 2nd place at the Indiana State Fair, he knew he might be onto something!
We just started selling individual slices about a month ago, but we’ve actually been making cheesecakes in Fort Wayne since 2007. Next year marks 20 years!
We’re also a true family-owned and family-run bakery. Glenn started Purple Mountain, and today Glenn, Cindy, our sons and daughters, and sometimes even our grandchildren work here. So I guess you could say we’re a second-generation bakery, with the third generation starting to learn the ropes!
When we first opened Purple Mountain Cheesecakes & Desserts, we were primarily doing catering and special-order cakes. Soon after, Captain’s Cabin in Angola took a chance on us, and we had our cheesecakes in our very first restaurant.
Captain’s Cabin has since retired and closed, but that first opportunity opened the door to many more. Today, you can find our cheesecakes in 11 different restaurants and shops:
Casa Restaurants — W. Jefferson, Dupont & Stellhorn
Henry’s
JK O’Donnell’s
Village Tap
Klemm’s on Wells (pies)
Rich’s — New Haven (pies)
Italian Grille — Auburn
Carve Market — Auburn
St. James — Avilla
And, of course, you can now find individual slices right here at Purple Mountain!
A few other things we get asked a lot:
🍰 Do you sell whole cheesecakes?
Absolutely! Whole cakes are still available by pre-order only. We’ve traditionally asked for 24–48 hours’ notice, and if we’re able to accommodate a last-minute order, we certainly will. However, as we’ve gotten busier, we now recommend ordering about a week in advance. Holidays fill up quickly, so we definitely recommend getting those orders in early!
📍 Where are you located?
We’re still downtown Fort Wayne at 424 E. Wayne St. Our kitchen is located in the back of the building, with the only entrance being through the back door. Our pickup area and display case are right inside.
Our hours:
Monday — 8–5
Tuesday — 8–5
Wednesday — Closed
Thursday — 8–5
Friday — 8–5
Saturday — 9–11
Sunday — Closed
🏗️ What happened to the Wells Street location?
We purchased the old Jack & Johnny’s building on Wells Street in 2019 and started work on the location. In 2020, our owner’s home caught fire and was severely damaged. At that time, the Wells Street project was put on hold, and it remains on hold today.
We still own the building, and we hope to resume work there one day—hopefully sooner rather than later!
Until then, we’re going to keep doing what we’ve been doing since 2007: making cheesecakes, trying new things, and hopefully giving you something worth coming back for.
And now that we’re making slices available every week, you’ll be seeing a LOT more of us around here. 😉
We’re really glad you’re here. 💜
