Nothing beats harvesting a fresh bed of flowers or 3, and if I’m going to be working on a Sunday this is definitely what I want to be doing.

I do love marigolds, but I’m also happy to see buckets of flowers in the back of the truck that aren’t orange! 🍊

We have been getting completely soaked in the morning harvesting wet marigolds, and I’m feeling a little over it, but we are persevering with music and a stash of candy in the truck.
I always pick a favorite marigold and then change my mind, but these gold marigolds are huge and fluffy and they are the first thing that catches my eye every time I go in the cooler.
Three marigold varieties plus the first cosmos & zinnias are headed to D-Kay this afternoon. If you purchase directly from me florist availability for next week will go out tomorrow.
We are cutting so many marigold daily right now so if you haven’t gotten an order in for this week and want to get some there is plenty of availability remaining!

Wrapped up our first of many weeks of marigold harvests this morning, and despite a rainy start to the week the sun came out and the flowers really started opening! It felt like we went from zero to 100 in just a few days- on Wednesday & Thursday we cut 44 stems of the Chedi Orange and then between yesterday and today we cut 347.

Working around corralling, tall plants and wet plants definitely slow things down, but we are starting to get back into a routine and move faster.
Tomorrow I’ll share a few ways I use and analyze the data from our harvest records.

If you need me, I’ll be cutting marigolds 🧡💛🧡💛
We cut hundreds of stems this week, and the rows are still full of opening buds for next week! It looks beautiful, but with wet weather overnight we were instantly soaked this morning and spent extra time getting the flowers dry before hauling them to the cooler. And with a weird little low pressure system off the coast bringing potentially heavy rain, I’ll be trying to keep stems harvested all weekend. The really tall stems are fun, but even with extra corralling they are more at risk for falling over from heavy rain and wind.
