Hello Community, I’m Henry Friar, ISA Certified Arborist with Arborist USA. Today we’re in Southlake, Texas performing soil remediation on a Savannah Post Oak (Quercus stellata) suffering from severe soil compaction caused by construction activities and heavy equipment traffic over the root system.
One of the most overlooked causes of tree decline is construction trauma.
When heavy equipment repeatedly travels over the root zone, the soil becomes compressed, eliminating the pore spaces that normally hold oxygen and water. Once those pore spaces collapse, roots struggle to respirate, nutrient uptake declines, and canopy vigor begins to suffer.
Today we’re utilizing an AirSpade tool to safely break apart compacted soil without damaging roots. This process helps:
• Restore oxygen exchange
• Improve root respiration
• Increase water infiltration
• Encourage feeder root development
• Reduce root-zone stress
• Improve overall tree vigor
Healthy trees begin with healthy roots, and healthy roots require oxygen. Many tree problems start underground long before symptoms appear in the canopy.
This is true plant healthcare focused on correcting the cause, not just treating the symptom.
