At the Market

At the Market Welcome to At the Market. We’ll visit farmer’s markets and vendor fairs, seasonal and year-round, permanent and pop-up.

We’ll meet the creators and artisans behind the tables, pouring their hearts into recipes and products, and share their stories.

The girls and I stayed local this year for spring break this year, but we still had a blast, thanks to our Get Out Pass.

We “met” Prince William, Elon Musk, Harry and Meghan, Taylor Swift and a host of other celebrities at Ripley’s Believe It or Not. (I’ve lived in DFW my entire 41 years, and had yet to visit Ripley’s, so I was a little more excited than the girls to visit.)

We joined Fort Worth’s herd of toddlers and checked out the animals at the Fort Worth Zoo.

And we took bluebonnet pics in the only 100% rattlesnake-free bluebonnet patch in all of Texas at Legoland Discovery Center.

When the girls get out this summer, we’ll spend the day at Hawaiian Falls, go to a couple of Rough Riders games, watch Fort Worth’s Vaqueros FC players live out their dreams, escape the heat at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center - all with our Get Out Pass.

The Get Out Pass is a great, inexpensive way for your kids to go and do all the things (and stay too busy to fight)! We live in one of the greatest big-city hubs in America - take advantage of it and support local businesses at the same time.

Our first soccer-free Saturday in ages called for a trip to Cowtown. ☀️

The girls led the way through Funky Finds Spring Fling at Will Rogers Memorial Center, chatting with makers, collecting business cards, and picking out some fun finds.

We even had a car-ride conversation about real ingredients, thanks to Dave from Dave’s Gourmet Cookies.

Missed it today? The market is open again Sunday, March 15 with 130+ vendors!

Confession: I’m not a fan of jarred marinara sauces, or even spaghetti for that matter.

But this week, with 4 soccer practices in 5 days, I needed a quick and easy dinner. So spaghetti it was.

This time, though, I tried Just Like Home’s Buttery Marinara Sauce, and let me tell you, it’s good - like spaghetti may have just entered our quick-and-easy-meal-rotation good. Plus, Just Like Home is based in Plano - win-win, right?

The ingredients are simple: vine-ripened California tomatoes, water, butter, onion, sugar, salt, spices and mustard - nothing weird, and nothing you can’t pronounce.

If you’re short on time and need a quick meal, give Just Like Home’s Buttery Marinara Sauce a try.

My oldest daughter has soccer practice tonight, so I ran to Central Market in Plano to grab the makings of a quick meal and a couple of jars of one of the few salsas my husband and I can agree on: Rosa salsa.

Austin's Nick Fenn started grilling up Rosa salsa, "the salsa that (literally) sticks" to your chip, two years ago. He announced this week that he's moving on, so do yourself a favor and pick up a couple of jars at Central Market while you can.

Also, is Miles of Chocolate still around but now being called a brownie? Check out the photos and you tell me what you think!
