Pressing the first batch of Gravenstein cider today! The first batch is always the best, come by and get some tomorrow, Tuesday 8/25. We should be open by early afternoon.

Update from the orchard, opening early next week for our 117th season of operation! Looking forward to seeing all of our cider loving, apple happy and local produce peeps!

Won’t be too much longer for apple picking; we’re getting ready…
Pallet forks are on the 3 point hitch for picking into bins.
Many apple varieties like the Jonathan pictured are ripening & coloring up. It’s deceiving though; that variety is 6-8 weeks away from harvest. The most common variety that’s starting to be ready is Gravenstein. (If you have that variety, they tend to drop, especially if they haven’t been thinned to 1 per cluster).

Spring in Humboldt has been great so far! Tree planting, seeing how well our orchard was pollinated and a couple of swarms captured is what’s happening. We replanted a lot of Honeycrisp that were diseased and planted a few more Granny Smith. Drip irrigation on the trellis is sure handy to have set up with how dry it is. We have a good crop of apples this season, we started hand thinning the third week of April this year!

Our CA native hedge along 101 is thriving! It keeps the wind down warming up our orchard and provides a home for native pollinators, birds and beneficial insects. See below for what shown in the reel.
