JOYFUL ANNOUNCEMENT 📣!

We’re open! Evacuation levels have dropped and it’s now safe for visitors and staff to re-enter the park.

Extreme fire danger and critically dry fuels persist across the monument and much of central Oregon. Before you hit the road, plan ahead and be prepared for travel impacts due to existing and new large fires.

Now more than ever it’s important for visitors to stay on the trail to preserve and protect priceless geologic and paleontological resources.

On Wednesday evening a catastrophic thunderstorm 🌩️ delivered hundreds of lightening strikes across Eastern Oregon cattle and wheat ranches resulting in countless fires 🔥 impacting family, friends, and neighbors throughout the region. Our dear friends, Marsha and Randall in Fossil were glassing when they saw lighting strike a juniper tree on Wilson Ranches and immediately erupt in flames. The rain arrived and Dad, our crew, and Fossil Volunteer Fire Department were able to squelch the fire. They headed out this morning and are holding the line on the North side of the Cove Creek Fire. Grateful for your thoughts and prayers for the safety of all as they continue to battle the rangeland fires.
