We have chicks hatching!

New life is always exciting, its a blessing to be able to witness life.

The kids saw a chick peeping through its shell earlier. I bet that one will be out this evening.

This weekend we made changes to our coop, we moved the perches over and with with a ladder style. We added a third perch too.

We changed the bedding completely from pine shavings that we removed and made a blend mainly consisting of chicken sand (no pineshavings).

We did put lips on the nesting boxes and added pine shavings there for now.

We figured we need to change something when we had to start hunting for eggs. And no the chickens werent just celebrating Easter and hiding them for the kids lol.

We still have some work and are going to expand the coop to accommodate more chickens.

We do have a door fod the hole in the floor, lol I took it out to rerannage...ok I fell through it because i closed it and buried it pulling the stuff out. But the door is fine, I just need new hinges lol. 😂

Ill be adding curtains this week and we will be adding a row of nesting boxes as well. This week we decorate!

My kids took a sharpie and drew randomly on the plywood a while back, should I paint it to match their doodles and make the hens a colorful hen house?

We got this beautiful boy yesterday, he was quick to take to us and wanted to explore a little so we lead him around the pasture.

Hes coming around quickly and shows great potential but he is still a little nervous.

I guess if my ranch hand doesn't learn the ropes quickly I may have to rehome him for a broken ranch hand. 🤣

Jokes aside, Spirit took to us quickly and definitely enjoyed the grooming and attention he received. Hes a thoughtful horse and is patient with us while our knowledge and confidence grows.
