Good news is that the ducks are ecstatic that it's raining!
Bad news is that we're water logged and won't be opening today. 🌧
See you next weekend!

A cute cat for attention... but really this post is about the tractor Quick Hitch, that heavy black metal thing in-between the tires and the tank.
I remember when I legit couldn't lift that thing. To add or remove it from the back of the tractor I'd setup a system of shims. Lift a couple of inches, wedge in some shims. Rinse and repeat.
Today I lift and hook it up with ease. This got me thinking about my time here on the Farm.
At the end of this year it will have been TEN YEARS of Farmer Wendy.
Here's the dirty truth.
I had ZERO experience with any of this. Five chickens, a hive of bees and I lived and grew up in the suburbs of Metro Detroit. Rochester. There are a lot fewer farms down there and my biggest experiences with farm animals were at the Detroit Zoo from afar and when Yates Cider Mill brings in the goat pen in the Fall. πŸ˜„ As for crops, there are some wonderful apple & berry upicks. That was the extent of my knowledge of Ag. But that's why I do this.
From the very beginning this has been a wild ride of learning how to run a business, tourism, big events, staffing, field trips, raising farm animals including livestock and reindeer, crop and agritainment farming while balancing being a single Mom. I think about the Boards that I've had the opportunity to serve on, the places that I've been honored to speak at and all of the News interviews spreading awareness of Ag education & Agritourism. This all has been an entire new world to explore and I've so enjoyed meeting everyone and learning SO MUCH!
Thank you for your support and your kindness to this first generation newbie. I promise to keep learning, working hard and create better and better Agriculture related experiences for you, your family and friends.
10 years deserves a celebration of sorts. What do you think that I should do to commemorate a decade on the Farm?

RAIN DAY πŸ’¦ Saturday, May 23rd.
It's turned into breakfast in bed for the animals today as these sprinkles just don't want to end.
::Insert Midwestern voice:: But man, we sure needed this rain. 🌱 The crops are loving it!
Tomorrow's forecast looks better for drying out in the morning and we'll be open at 10am. See you then!

And so it begins...
🌻🌻🌻🌻 are planted and sprouting!
Who's excited for the Frankenmuth Flower Festival ?!?
The sunfowers will be blooming and ready to see and pick July 31st, Aug 1st & 2nd. So don't be that person that stops in next week looking for 20 acres of blooming sunflowers. πŸ™ƒ
