Wellness day for our hardworking horses 💙

One of the ways we help keep our horses feeling their best is through MagnaWave sessions. Our horses give us their all, so we believe in giving back to them with extra care, body work, rest, and attention to the little things.

MagnaWave is a form of PEMF therapy that is commonly used to help support circulation, relaxation, muscle recovery, stiffness, soreness, and overall comfort. It’s not a replacement for veterinary care, but it can be a great addition to a well-rounded wellness routine.

Some horses get sleepy, some lick and chew, some stretch, and some just stand there like they own the place — which, let’s be honest, they kind of do. 😂

At H&H Acres and Carriage Service, our horses are more than just part of the business. They are our partners, and keeping them comfortable, happy, and cared for will always be our top priority. 🐴✨

We are so proud to congratulate three of our amazing employees, Chloe Leach, Hillary Darms, and Rebecca Allard, on their accomplishments showing their horses in speed shows this weekend! 🐴🏆

Chloe had an incredible weekend, competing in the buckle series on Friday and then the 4-H qualifier on Saturday.

Friday:
• 3rd in Barrels with an 18.63
• 1st in Speed & Action with an 8.84
• 2nd in Keyhole

Saturday:
• 1st in Poles with a 26.40
• 1st in Flags with a 9.31
• 1st in Speed & Action with a 9.59
• 2nd in Barrels with a 16.92

Rebecca also had a great weekend, placing 4th in Flags Friday night, 6th in Barrels Saturday, and 3rd in Speed & Action!

Hillary had a strong showing as well, placing 4th in Flags, 5th in Speed & Action, and 5th in Down & Back!

The level of horsemanship these girls show in the arena absolutely shines through in their work with our carriage horses. Their patience, confidence, and understanding of horses make them such valuable members of our team.

We are so proud of our employees, both in and out of the carriage stand. Congratulations, girls! ❤️

*Thursday 6/11* After looking at today’s heat index, humidity, and chance of rain, we’ve decided to give our horses the day off in Frankenmuth. 🐴☀️

While it may not technically hit 90°, the real feel is expected to be around 93°, and we always try to make the best call for our horses, our crew, and our setup for the day. Every operation has its own horses, routes, schedules, and comfort levels — today, ours voted for fans, shade, and snacks. Honestly, my hair also voted no and it was very passionate about it. 😅

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and hope to see you when the weather is a little more cooperative!

☀️ Summer Temperature Guidelines ☀️

As we head into warmer weather, we want to remind everyone of our summer guidelines for keeping our horses safe and comfortable while they work.

🌡️ 90 degrees Fahrenheit and above: We are closed
🌡️ 85–89 degrees Fahrenheit: Work is limited
⛈️ We may also close for heavy rain, high winds, or thunderstorms

Our horses always come first. In warm weather, our horses are rotated, only do a limited number of rides, are cooled down with cool hose water every 30 minutes, and always have access to fresh cool water while at the stand. We also supplement with Apple Elite Electrolytes to help support them through the summer months.

We also like to gently remind people that the draft breeds we use — Percherons, Belgians, and Clydesdales — were originally bred to do serious work. These horses pulled farm machinery, pulling plows, cannons in war, and heavy drays through city streets. When operated responsibly, pulling a light carriage on wheels over pavement is truly some of the easiest work many draft horses have ever seen.

That being said, “easy work” does not mean “no rules.” We still watch the weather, rotate horses, limit rides, provide water, and shut down when conditions are not in the horses’ best interest.

And of course, being stationed next to a bakery does come with one very important welfare benefit: our horses get to work in a place where the humans are constantly giving out snacks. Morale matters. 😉

Thank you for supporting horse-first carriage rides

Mickey had a routine wellness checkup today!

One of the most important parts of caring for working horses is paying attention to the little things. We noticed our pal Mickey had gotten just a touch thinner than we’d like, so we scheduled a full wellness exam and bloodwork. We prefer to be proactive and make sure our equine partners are feeling their best before small concerns become bigger ones.

Routine exams and bloodwork help us monitor overall health, especially in our upper teens horses and those working throughout the season. It’s just one of the many ways we try to give our horses the same level of care and attention they give us every day.

As for Mickey’s appointment, we’re sorry to report that our veterinarian is now missing a finger. To be fair, after putting one hand in the back end and then one in the front end, Mickey was simply providing a lesson in proper order of operations. 🤣

Thankfully, everyone survived the experience, Mickey earned plenty of treats for being a good patient (who needs 5 fingers anyways), and hopefully after a round of antibiotics and some extra alfalfa soups we can keep him happy, healthy, and ready for another season of making memories in Frankenmuth.

(And yes, before anyone asks, Mickey celebrated his successful doctor visit by immediately looking for something dirty to roll in.)

Pictured is Mickey looking extra pathetic after some good drugs 🤣

Experience one of Frankenmuth's most cherished traditions, Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival at Fischer Platz Biergarten! 🍻

From lively polka bands to crowd-favorite country, here’s who’s taking the stage this weekend! ⬇️🎤

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this such a great weekend! 🐴🤍
The horses are home, fed, and tucked in for the night after working hard and loving on all of our riders.

We hope to see everyone again next weekend for Frankenmuth’s Bavarian Festival! 🇩🇪✨

And don’t worry — Mickey, our white horse, wasted absolutely no time rolling in the mud the second he got home. After being expected to stay clean for two whole days this week, he clearly felt he had suffered enough. 🤣
