David Meier began working in his early teens, he operated a pressure washing service, learned the art of welding, later he worked in corporate America. David's career paths have provided him the skills and financial resources necessary to undertake a once in a lifetime opportunity, breathing life back into the former Old Crow Distillery property as Glenns Creek Distillery in Woodford county, Kentu

cky. Dave has a hands on vision for a blue collar working craft distillery which will produce a collection of white collar taste distilled beverages. Join David and his team as we begin on this journey of restoration! Each return visit to Glenns Creek Distillery will reveal historical artifacts, new improvements to structures and beautification of the sprawling property. Once a year, once every 6 months, once a month each visit will be inspiring.

This is the last chance to sign up for our 4th of July celebration. For planning purposes, we need to have a firm headcount so we will close reservations at 6 pm Eastern time on July 1st.

I will have samples of both the highly sought after Old Crow Traveler and chess piece (claimed by some to be the best bourbon ever) for sale. If you want to experience Old Crow from the 1960's this is your chance.

We will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and chicken with all the fixings. We will also have some homemade desserts. The boys have a really nice semi-professional fireworks show set up.

We will have a special release of something new, and attendance guarantees that you will be able to sample and purchase a bottle. What will it be?? I think I already told you.

My daughter has been doing felt art for 12 years and she produces some amazing work. She has been interested in artistic endeavors since she was a young child and has a BA in art. On a side note, she is the person who drew the image of the famous Commodore Boraslav Alexsander S'otit of the Swiss Romanian navy. She recently finished a how-to book showcasing her work. She has a quirky sense of humor too. I wonder where she got that?

On our nature walk today we discovered this water lily blooming. We also checked the milkweed to see if any Monarchs have been laying eggs and didn't find any. I did spot the first hummingbird of the year getting nectar from the Rose of Sharon bush. I couldn't get a photo of it.

Our Minnesota distributor is promoting our products for Father's Day. You lucky Minnesotans can go to your local store and purchase or ask the store to get our OCD #5 and Cafe Ole. The distributor is Small Lot Wine and Spirits in Minneapolis.

Thanks to Makenna for sending this to me.

Strong Spirits - Strong Fathers
Celebrating Father's Day can bring a mixed reaction for many. While some people have a father worth honoring, some people don't, while others have an empty spot where a father should have been.

That's why we like to include grandfathers, teachers, coaches, uncles, mentors, friends, and others considered to fill the "Father Figure Role" in people's lives. That special person who helps shape our lives through their guidance, strength, and unwavering support. Whether they're sharing life lessons, family traditions, or simply a great bottle around the table, fathers remind us that the best moments are often the ones shared.

The History of Father's Day
In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, was inspired by Anna Jarvis and the idea of Mother’s Day. Her father, William Jackson Smart, a farmer and Civil War veteran, was also a single parent who raised Sonora and her five brothers by himself after his wife, Ellen, died giving birth to their youngest child in 1898. While attending a Mother’s Day church service in 1909, Sonora, then 27 years old, came up with the idea.

The idea eventually spread to Washington DC, but it took decades to be adopted as a Federal Holiday. With society being largely patriarchal, for a while, it was seen as unnecessary, along with it also being associated with the flowers and dinner out that Mother's Day was celebrated with. However, the great depression served as a reason to honor fathers and help ignite the economy with gifts and celebrations.

It still rings true that no matter the reason, taking time out of our regularly scheduled lives to say thank you to the fathers and father figures in our lives for all they do is deeply important.

Glenns Creek Bourbon is a beautiful choice for celebrating or gifting this Father's Day!

Glenns Creek Distillery
When David Meier, the owner of Glenns Creek Distillery, started out on this adventure of distilling, he intended to make great, hand-crafted bourbon that would honor the spirit of Dr. James Crow. He did not expect that he would be using yeast resurrected from one of the fermentation tanks at the old distillery, but in retrospect, it makes perfect sense as people have been reviving yeast for thousands of years.

David knew that he wanted to create a truly unique bourbon, but like many great creations of the past, OCD #5 is a combination of ideas from all the people who have helped revive the old distillery. We did a lot of experiments and, in the end, combined several good ideas to create a bourbon unlike anything else on the market.

Café Olé™ is a bourbon with a very unique flavor profile. It is the same mash bill as our OCD #5™ bourbon with an addition of a heavily toasted barley malt. It has hints of chocolate and coffee with a long lingering finish.
David has always had a love for where things are made, how they are made, and the level of craftsmanship that went into their making. This love of creation was one of the driving forces behind his career in manufacturing and his yearning to create something of his own.

He happened upon the Old Crow Distillery. Seeing the exorbitant level of craftsmanship that went into the old buildings and seeing the state that they were in after being abandoned for 30 years brought up a mix of sadness for the current state and intrigue for what it must have been like in its prime. David started to research the history of The Old Crow Distillery to get a better feel of what role the old distillery played in the bourbon industry and Kentucky. He recreated a new bourbon produced in the style of Dr. Crow; something that Dr. Crow would drink and approve of. The road ahead to restore and preserve these great buildings is a long one, but one that everybody at the distillery is willing to undertake.
