Big weekend of firsts for the pups! First kids born and the chance to teach them about respectful and calm interactions with moms and babies. They did amazing! Lucy was always close by making sure they didn't cross any lines. She is super protective of the new moms!
We also separated a group and put them with their Aunt Greta and Caliber to start learning from other guardians in the big sheep pen while getting used to daily moves. Those four also did fabulous! The sheep were either completely enamored with them and we love seeing them lay calmly to be inspected by the ewes and show submissive, calm and affectionate behavior to the sheep and the older dogs. Can't say enough good things about this litter!
Just five unclaimed puppies left...if you're looking for a guardian to add to your farm or ranch, let us know--these guys are gold 🄰

Exceptional livestock guardian dogs have been the bedrock of our sheep and goat operation for a decade and we're thrilled to have another litter available this spring! These pups were sired by our third generation super star, Wise. He's equal parts Maremma, Kangal, Pyrenees and Anatolian. This is Lucy's first litter and we couldn't be more proud of how well she's raised ten puppies. Lucy is half Sarplaninac and half Pyrenees. Both parents were selected based on their dedication to their job, willingness to respect fences, excellent demeanor with livestock and humans, and overall health and physical ability.

Birthdate of this litter was 12/5/2025. All puppies have been seen by the vet, had their first round of vaccinations and have been dewormed. We currently have nine pups still available, four females and five males (names next to individual photos; pics of Lucy and Wise at end of photos). We can coordinate delivery almost anywhere in Texas and may also be lining up a trip to Montana. Please reach out to us for more information or with any questions! You can reach us via Messenger or email at [email protected]. Also--our website is currently offline for revisions, but should be back up in the next week or two!

Hey there! It's been a while...but we're still here! Just in a *slightly* different location šŸ˜Ž More on that in an update post later today.

For now, I wanted to share that these two beauties are available after getting some finishing touches in the past week. The moorit (reddish-brown) hide is Icelandic and sumptuously soft: both the fiber and the leather! The second hide is a once-in-a-lifetime one from a naturally-colored Lincoln ram. Range of colors and curl structure on this one is just awesome. It has a firm tan that would make it suitable as a rug or wall hanging.

Both were tanned by me, using only natural ingredients: tan oak bark and mimosa extract, citric acid, salt, vinegar and water.

If you're interested, please message us for more details. We can ship anywhere in the US! ā¤ļøšŸ

Looking for goats? We have a small family looking for a new home! 2 yr old Alpine doe with her 1 yr old Boer/Alpine doe and her wether born this March. We haven’t milked the doe but she had an awesome udder and raised two large and healthy kids last year (she was not bred this year), so I have no doubt she’d be an excellent milking doe. DM for more info!

I’m super excited to be sharing with you some of the first three veg-tanned hides I have available for purchase! They haven’t yet hit the website, so this is your chance to snag one before I add them there 😊

These are 100% bark (or veg-) tanned hides, using mimosa and oak bark. The only other substances to touch these hides are citric acid, salt, vinegar and our all natural wool soap. These tans are soft and flexible, a few of my best tans thus far. The black and longer-wooled white one are Icelandic; the dense, finer wool (unbelievably soft!) is one of our first Merino/Lincoln crosses.

Each of these hides is like a work of art for me. I try to finish it in a way that allows the natural character of the original hide to show through and reflects the beauty of the animal it belonged to. That means leaving some curls intact and using different techniques to brush our different areas of the hide, so they may look a bit different than other tanned sheepskins you’ve seen!

A lot of joy and love (and heavy lifting!) has gone into these ā¤ļø

If you’re interested in purchasing one, reach out to me directly via DM!

Here’s a little glimpse into the end-stage transformation of one of our Icelandic pelts into a tanned sheepskin.

The first picture was taken when the hide came out of the tannin (Mimosa extract) and shows the progression as I comb out the extensive snarls and mats. Isn’t it amazing?!

This is the longest staple length I’ve worked with yet, and I’m so thrilled with how it turned out. Our son actually chose this hide as his teaching hide for his first-ever veg tanning experience. But then he left for Mexico while it was still in the tannin, so I got to finish it for him :) I mean, who needs Mexico in January when it’s -30 in Montana and you have sheepskins to tan?! šŸ˜‚

Lots more to come on my current tanning journey (including hides available for purchase!) but for now just a quick shout out and acknowledgement of gratitude to Matt whose fabulous teaching and classes have given me the foundational skills to get to this point. If you have any interest in tanning, I cannot recommend his classes enough!

This sweet girl, Orlaith, is the last pup available from our 8/27/23 litter. She is gorgeous, a quick learner, loves belly rubs and is already an attentive guardian. She is living full-time with sheep, training with older sister Greta (shown in last photo) and mentor dog Jess. She is trained to electric netting and respects the fence well!

More info at our website, or message us here on FB, or reach out to us at [email protected]; we’re happy to answer any and all questions about whether Orlaith might be a good fit for your farm and family!

We are thrilled to be attending the Christmas Village Market in Bigfork tomorrow (December 2)! We'll have all of our new yarns there, as well as roving, felt and batts, tanned sheepskins and ram horns. We'll also have a selection of retail lamb cuts if you're looking for local, grassfed meat for the holiday season.

There will be a fabulous group of local artisans at the market and this is a great chance to shop locally and support our small business and artist community here in Bigfork!

The market is located at 115 Swan River Road, Bigfork, MT 59911 (On Hwy 83, across from Echo Lake Cafe) and will be open from 10-3. We hope to see you there and have a chance to visit with you!

I've been slow to post much about this latest litter of puppies, so it's hard to believe they are almost ready to start heading to new homes!

This is the third litter out of Amerie and Boaz, and they are the most colorful group yet!
I really love the personalities in this litter, and they are probably the most laid back and cohesive bunch of the three. As with all our litters, they have been outside, in the pasture, and near sheep since birth and learning guarding skills from their mom and older siblings. If you haven't yet explored the information we have on our website about our LGD's and our breeding program, you can find out more at: https://www.rovingramranch.com/livestock-guardian-dogs.

Pups still available are not yet listed on the website , but I hope to have that done by this evening, so keep an eye out for that! There are currently 3 females and 2 males left.

They were born 8/27 and will be ready to go the last weekend in October. Vet check and first round of vaccinations are happening tomorrow. Please reach out via DM, email or phone call (contact info on the website) for more information or to set up a time to come meet these lovely pups!

Dinner is so exhausting!

These cuties are already getting tons of exposure and experience learning the guarding life…mom and their big brother from a previous litter are guarding chickens and sheep from heavy coyote and bear pressure right across the fence, and they’re getting to know and bond with sheep from the start.

These pups get lots of visitors for socialization and will not leave the pasture until they are ready to go to their new homes, which goes a long way towards developing an adult guardian dog who is bonded with his or her livestock charges and stays with them, in the fence, no matter what.

This is a gorgeous litter of pups and as always, it’s an honor and privilege to be a part of giving them a great start to their guarding futures. We just hate having to say goodbye to them!
