Spring has Sprung,kind of. It’s been a roller coaster with the weather and life. We have managed to get a few Spring chores done while we wait for the ATV to be fixed from the fire test it failed miserably 😆. We replaced the electronics and wiring we could manage and beyond that,one of the computers failed so it’s at the shop with a professional. Got a new tree stand up on the front 20 acres and found out I’m still not immune to poison ivy. As we age we know building and improving around the property will only get more difficult. That being said,now was a horrible time to start a new duck blind build but here we go. It’s been nice watching the turkeys and ducks/geese beginning their Spring mating traditions. Let’s hope the warmth is here to stay.

Today didn’t go as planned. I started mowing the back field and blew a belt off on the brush hog. An hour later I was up and running and got the back field knocked out. Trying to make my tomorrow easier I pushed into the front field. I did a few passes and smelled smoke but wrote it off to a nearby campfire. My next pass back it was already out of control. I tried with buckets of water but by the time it reached the tall stuff all bets were off. What I didn’t know,the atv was on fire. Trying to save the atv I got a few second degree burns on my hand. The fire departments,yes plural,were quickly on scene and I’m grateful for them. 5-6 acres burned,no dwellings lost and only minor injuries. Lesson learned,clean out behind the skid plates on the atv from last years cutting. Sorry if I made anyone’s day tougher by the street closings and sirens and such. Big thanks to Franklin,Carrsville,Hunterdale and Va dept of forestry. They were all on it and worked quickly and efficiently to stop the spread.

We are ready for Spring and the big green up!!!!! Im a big fan of the Snow but working in the Northeast has been brutal this Winter. We have received some very beneficial rains in the last few weeks at the farm and it seems the river and beaver swamps are almost back to normal pool. Glad to report one of the cameras has picked up on daily activity near one of the wood duck boxes with a pair of mating wood ducks. In the coming weeks it’ll be time to knock the fields down and do some much needed spraying of the river birch trees that have encroached on the pollinator habitat. Stay warm everybody,it’s almost Spring time!

The annual wood duck box maintenance/check is complete. We don’t typically go into the boxes post mating season. I like to do it all at once in February. Lucky for us,everything has been frozen for weeks. Glad to have heavy waders/clothes from duck hunting to just the ice and get this chore done. Always great to see the boxes are being used,even if it’s by birds other than wood ducks. Hoping this warm up comes quickly so we can progress with the upcoming Spring chores.

I guess meta/book face has a problem with our hunting pictures. They go against guidelines and community standards 😆. So,if the page disappears that’s why. Until then I’ll just keep posting hunting pictures. We had a great morning on the property today! Carry on and stay warm yall.

Sorry we’ve been “busy” 😆 We were able to do a little giving back to somebody that deserved it. Walt has been a good friend to us for many years and he has allowed us to hunt his property for years while we struggled for places to hunt. Now that we own some property we have the opportunity to give him a chance to harvest some ducks outside of his comfort zone. It was a pleasure spending a morning in the blind sharing stories and laughs. A couple more weeks of duck season and hopefully some more snow and cold!!!!!!

At Cypress Landing Farm, we take snow days so seriously that we've turned them into an extreme sport! Who needs skiing when you can experience the thrill of snow rides? That's right, folks – we’re talking about 4-wheelers pulling jet sleds like it's the Winter Olympics!

Forget about hitting the slopes; we're all about hitting the fields and making snow angels while holding on for dear life! 😂

But in all seriousness, we absolutely adore the breathtaking beauty that these snowy days bring. There's nothing quite like the serene landscape blanketed in white, and the joy it brings to our farm. So, whether we're sledding or marveling at nature, snow days at Cypress Landing Farm are always a blast! ☃️❤️

Took a pre dawn walk on the farm to watch the ducks fly into the swamp. Always an amazing experience watching them locate their surroundings and friends in the limited visibility. They put on quite a show this morning and I’m glad we made the effort to get out there and watch. Hope you all enjoyed our little snow event. Stay warm and let’s hope for more this Winter!
