Harris Livestock

Harris Livestock "Its not just about how much you want it, It's about how hard you're willing to work for it." I'm Christen Harris, owner of Harris Livestock.

I am a club lamb breeder of champion genetics and hold showmanship clinics and private lessons for lambs and goats. I am a 2019 graduate of Texas A&M University. In addition to breeding quality club lambs I like to work closely with kids guiding them in the proper techniques of showmanship and teaching basic nutrition and fitting. When I’m not in the barn I also teach math at Magnolia West High school.

My Story

Howdy! I am Christen Harris, owner of Harris Livestock in Midlothian, TX. I am the loudest and proudest fightin’ Aggie, Class of 2019, majoring in Animal Science. I am a club lamb breeder of champion genetics that include KegStand, Prophet, Maximus, Fear None and Fear Factor bloodlines. My love for the sheep industry began at a very early age helping on my grandfather’s farm where he raised a mix of Barbados and Katahdin sheep. When I was eight years old he purchased my very first Hampshire cross lamb to show at our county show. Although I placed last that first year, I knew I was hooked on showing and wanted to go to every show I could find. Over the years I accomplished many of the challenging goals I had set for my show career. In 2012, I joined the Texas Junior Livestock Association and was a top ten lamb exhibitor, region 3 lamb champion, top five fine wool lamb, top five fine wool cross lamb, top ten in showmanship and had the champion fine wool cross at HOT Fair. In 2013, I was the TJLA Region 3 lamb champion, overall fine wool cross champion, and overall fine wool champion as well as top 10 lamb exhibitor. In 2014, I set my sights on a much larger accomplishment and won the Texas Junior Livestock Association All-Around Champion Lamb buckle, breaking the record for the most points ever scored in the lamb division. I was also the Showmanship runner-up, Region 3 lamb champion, and overall fine wool cross champion. I was the Sr. Showmanship winner at The Fall Classic and the North Texas Fair as well as numerous jack pots across the state. I won six Ellis County Youth Expo Lamb Showmanship Champion buckles as well as winning an Ellis County Youth Expo Overall Champion Banner for three consecutive years along with many breed champions. I placed in the top five of all Texas majors including winning my class at the Star of Texas in Austin in 2015. My success was featured in an article in the Midlothian Now Magazine in 2014 that not only highlighted my show career but my breeding business as well. I began my journey as a club lamb breeder 2012 in when I purchased my very first ewe, a Dorset cross sired by Immortal. In 2013 that ewe produced a set of twins that competed in the Midwest Stud and Ram Sale in Missouri and they won the Champion and Reserve Champion Speckle Club Lamb and the Overall Reserve Champion Club Lamb. It has always been my dream after retiring from my show career to not only be a breeder but to teach kids that are wanting to learn about the industry and to help them improve the skills needed to reach their goals. I have been an instructor for many reputable clinics including the Texas A&M Aggieland Lamb Camp. Each year kids from all over attend the Harris Livestock Lamb and Goat Showmanship Clinic and I also hold private lessons throughout the year. Feel free to call me any time if you need help or advice.
