Hoodstead Brown Swiss

Hoodstead Brown Swiss Hoodstead Farm was small, family-owned dairy farm in Middletown, MD. Their prefix and Brown Swiss herd carries on at Linden Hall Farm in Hagerstown, MD.

Hoodstead Farm is a small, family-operated dairy farm, owned by the Hood Family. We proudly raised registered Brown Swiss and Holstein animals. We sold our milking herd in September of 2010 and sold the farm in 2022 but we have kept one cow family going, thanks to the help of friends in the industry, and may have young stock available. Inquiries welcome!

Hoodstead Joey Parmesan has been the STAR ⭐️ of attention lately!

🐮 Meet Levi, our 4-H lease kid this year. We have been SO blessed to get to know his wonderful family better, and have been excited to see the special bond Levi & Parmesan are building with each other. This is what it's really all about: watching the love of cows come alive, even through the tough days!

🐮 On Thursday, Parmesan, Nicole & Scott got to meet Zippy Duvall, the American Farm Bureau Federation President while Farm Bureau was at Linden Hall doing some special news features!

On September 10th, 2010, the majority of the Hoodstead herd left our farm in Middletown. We kept a handful of Nicole’s “P” family to continue ourselves, but Scott’s “N” family and the others in the herd moved down south to Jennings Gap Dairy in Virginia.

Fast forward to May 28, 2026, we made the trip to Jennings Gap to bring descendants of the “N” family back home 💚 Such a full circle moment!

Thank you SO much, Billie Jo, for this opportunity! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our little Hoodstead Swiss herd at Linden Hall Farm.

And better yet, these girls go back to Hoodstead Dynasty Blueberry, who was out of Hoodstead Jetway Nabisco, Judy’s favorite cow 😍🥲

Hoodstead Farm in Middletown, MD was purchased in 1957 by Harold and Louise Hood to establish a Holstein herd of their own. Their son, Scott, always liked the Brown Swiss breed, but didn’t get too far when his father bred his Swiss 4H project to a Charolais.

Scott purchased the farm from his parents in 1979, and married Judy in 1987, the same year he purchased his foundation Brown Swiss. The herd soon expanded to a registered Holstein and Brown Swiss herd, as well as the family with the arrival of daughter, Nicole.

An offspring from Scott’s Brown Swiss purchase, “New Year”, quickly changed the dynamics of the herd when she would easily flush with 20+ #1 embryos, with the majority of them resulting in females. Many of which went on to become All-Americans.

Nicole was gifted her first Brown Swiss calf at 4 months old by Bill and Cindy Warner. Her Holstein herd ended in average cows or bull calves, but her show career and Brown Swiss herd took off when “Panda” was born.

Hoodstead Farm sold their milking herd in the fall of 2010, but they were able to keep Nicole's "P" family going with the help of Jobo Holstein Farm in Gettysburg, PA. In 2022, they sold the farm in Middletown, and have since transitioned the herd to Nicole & her husband's farm, Linden Hall Farm in Hagerstown, MD.
