If you’ve never met James Monroe or had a bowl of authentic 1800s punch, come to the James Monroe Museum on Friday, October 3!

I’ll be demonstrating and serving a popular rye whiskey punch recipe and James Monroe will talk about his post-presidency life and foray into the rye industry. $35 tickets include two 4oz tastings, snacks, our company, and after-hours admission to the museum. I’m pleased to serve hot apple cider tonight at “Night In Washington’s Day” to refresh guests after their travels in the coach-and-six.

Tonight’s recipe is a popular descendant from Williamsburg taverns, including lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and brown sugar.

Each of these ingredients are “mulled” together and served hot. It makes for a perfect autumn and winter drink because most Virginia colonists could easily store and ferment their own apple cider at home! (although purchasing these additional ingredients would have been quite expensive)

I was thrilled to visit Gadsby’s Tavern for the first time this weekend, and for a Masquerade Ball at that!

This was a proper Federal tavern that outclassed most other establishments in Virginia. I loved the musician’s balcony in the ballroom.
