Double K Longhorns

I was truly honored to be invited as a guest on **From the Pasture with Hired Hand** to talk about Double K Longhorns and the journey that has taken us from a few Longhorns I wasn’t sure I even wanted 😂 to the breeding program we have today.

I’m certainly no expert, and there are plenty of people in this industry who have been doing this much longer than I have, but I enjoyed the opportunity to share some of our experiences, what has worked for us, and a few things I’ve learned along the way.

A sincere thank you to Hired Hand Software for giving breeders a platform to share their stories. I hope you’ll give it a listen — and maybe learn a little more about the story behind Double K Longhorns.

Kathy Palladini didn't set out to be a photographer, she set out to market her cattle. What happened in between is something she never planned for and never expected to love as much as she does.

Kathy has been building Double K Longhorns in Junction, Texas for over two decades and somewhere along the way she picked up a camera, started sitting in the pasture with her cattle at sunrise, and ended up with a photography business that has people reaching out from Instagram asking to buy canvas prints and visit the ranch. In this week's episode she sits down with Molly to talk about the breeding philosophy behind Double K Longhorns, what the camera taught her about her own cattle that she couldn't see with her own eyes, and why she says the best advice she ever got was so simple most people overlook it.

Dbl-K Twice as High is a special Dunn Got Double Lucky daughter out of our very own Dbl-K Winnin' Highness. Every breeding program is built one generation at a time, and we never take for granted the role strong genetics play in producing the kind of cattle we hope to raise. Pedigrees may help set the foundation, but each heifer still has to prove herself—and Twice as High definitely makes us proud. We’re grateful for the cattle that came before her and excited to see what she contributes to the generations ahead. ❤️

Some cows pose for the camera. Others simply own the landscape.
I love the confidence in this girl—and the way her horn frames the Hill Country behind her. What catches your eye first: her horn, her color, or the setting?

Dbl-K Twice the Faith is a 4-year-old daughter of Dunn Got Double Lucky (Dunn Lucky Dice x Delta Lucky Ace). Her dam, a Tempter granddaughter, has been one of our most consistent producers, and Twice the Faith is following closely in her footsteps. She's expecting her 3rd calf late fall/early winter by HL Double Barrel. We're excited to see what this pairing produces! She and other nice females are available now at www.DoubleKLonghorns.com.

Dbl-K High Seas is a Dunn Aces High daughter out of our iconic Lobster's Joy. We're retaining her '24 heifer as a replacement while her '23 daughter is living the good life at H Ranch in Pontalina, Brazil. High Seas is confirmed bred to HL Double Barrel for a fall calf. If you haven’t visited our website lately, now is a great time to take a look and see what’s available! www.DoubleKLonghorns.com

Dbl-K Winnin' Highness and her Dunn Got Double Lucky heifer. This little girl has no idea just how high our expectations are for her. This cross is a proven winner. Her full sister is 🔥! Hoping history repeats itself. 🙏

Dbl-K Darlenes Smile went to town once to participate in a futurity. I didn't think she was flashy enough to win a class, but felt she was put together well enough to show and besides, I needed a travel partner for another show heifer. Darlenes Smile landed about in the middle of her class. Her placing didn't make me think less of her. She could still make a great longhorn cow. Time will tell, but I sure like the way she's maturing and she's doing a pretty good job raising her first calf. Most of all, I just love how she looks in my pasture, and that's what really counts.
