Hope all of you are doing well, and staying healthy! Just a reminder, Marburger Orchard has now been closed to the general public for the last three years, as we continue to lose more and more of our old peach trees each year (No, we are not planting new trees....I am enjoying "semi-retirement" too much to create more work!). What little fruit we are still producing from the few remaining trees is being sold wholesale to other peach growers, for resale at their peach stands. At the moment, we are rushing to get our trees pruned, while they are still dormant (about another six weeks). At the beginning of January, the trees were far behind on their required hours of winter chilling (necessary for a healthy crop). Since then, we have had some extended days of temperatures below 45 degrees....please appreciate the cold weather, if you would like to have a good peach crop this summer!

The 2021 peach season wrapped up for most growers in late July or early August. Marburger Orchard had a very good crop of exceptional quality peaches this year, which we continued to market through the Eckhardt Orchard, as we have the past three years, since we have been closed to the public at our orchard. More and more of our very old trees continue to die each year, and we are now down to only a few hundred trees, compared to nearly 4000, at the peak of the orchard about 20 years ago. Hopefully, we will be able to maintain and harvest the remaining trees a few more years. Next year's crop should start ripening about mid-May. Our Redglobe peaches are now being picked (almost finished!), and are available at the Eckhardt peach stand, along with their Loring and Blazeprince varieties. There may be different varieties on different days, so check with them before going, if you want a specific peach variety. Redglobe will probably be our last variety of the season, since we have very few trees anymore in the later varieties.

Lots of big, beautiful, sweet Sentinel and Gala peaches this week! Eckhardt Orchards is again picking and selling our peaches and blackberries this year (along with their own), as they have done now for the three years since we closed Marburger Orchard to the public. This is some of the prettiest, and most abundant crop that we have seen in these two varieties. Picking in the Harvester variety should also start within the next few days. Don't wait...when these three varieties (and the blackberries) are finished in about two weeks, there will be very little fruit coming out of our orchard for the remainder of the season.

The Eckhardt Orchards will be harvesting and selling our peaches (along with their own) and blackberries at their roadside stand, again this year, as they have done the last two years. Our orchard is no longer open to the public.

We are open this weekend and getting ready for the season! We have our seasonal vegetables, local goat cheese and grass fed beef, pecans, small batch ice cream, fresh-frozen peas & beans and tasty canned and pickled goods.

We won't rush our trees - they're busy growing the best produce on earth. But, if they’re ready, peaches may start trickling in on Sunday. Come out and see all we have to offer!

STRAWBERRY ALERT!!! We are no longer growing strawberries, but Jenschke Orchards is .... and they are doing a fantastic job! They are at the peak of their season right now, and they have an abundance of big, beautiful berries. I was just out visiting in their field late this afternoon, and I am probably headed back over there as soon as I can tomorrow, to pick enough to stock up my freezer for the rest of the year! I recommend getting out there this Wednesday (tomorrow), or Thursday, at the latest (early morning is best for you, and the berries!) There are usually very few pick-your-own customers during the week -- try to avoid the weekend crowds, if at all possible. The other critical factor right now is the anticipated hotter than normal temperatures later this week -- there is the likelihood of a lot of ripe berries being damaged by the heat.

Hey there! Hope all of you are staying safe and healthy, and that you were able to find alternative sources for fresh fruits and vegetables this year, here in the Hill Country, or close to wherever you live. After significantly reducing the size of our operation two years ago (no more strawberries, and much fewer peach trees), and closing to the public (I'm enjoying "semi-retirement"!), we began selling all of our peaches, and most of our blackberries, to the Eckhardt Orchards, for their stand on Hwy. 87, just south of Fredericksburg, for resale, along with their own peaches, and other produce. We anticipate doing likewise again in 2021. Right now, our peach trees are responding to the cooler weather (near freezing a couple of weeks ago), and beginning to drop their leaves, as they go into winter dormancy. They don't use a lot of water during the winter, but we could sure use some rain to help maintain healthy roots, in preparation for next spring. We would also like to see a little colder winter than we had last year. Peach trees need an adequate amount of "winter chilling" in order to produce a healthy crop next season. For current information on other orchards and fruit stands here in the Hill Country, go to: www.texaspeaches.com. To the best of my knowledge, none of these are open this time of year, and will reopen when they again begin to harvest their crops next spring and summer. Peaches usually begin in early May.

The 2020 peach season is getting close to the end! Marburger Orchard has been closed to the general public now for the last two years, with the peaches from our few remaining trees going to the Donald Eckhardt Orchards, for sale alongside their own peaches, at their peach stand on Hwy. 87, just south of Fredericksburg. Supply is getting scarce, and demand is high....check ahead, before coming!

The 2020 peach season has begun! Same as last year, Marburger Orchard is no longer open for PYO and retail sales. All of our peaches (unless we have hail damage!) will be picked and sold by the Donald Eckhardt Orchards. Their first day to be open with peaches was today, Friday, May 15th. They will start picking our first variety, Regal, sometime next week, to be sold along with their own Regal.
