Ever since I can remember, the art of making tamales has been in my family. I can remember watching my Grandma and all her 9 daughters sitting around the dining room table going at it while, talking about church things or just local and family gossip. Each with a specific task but all of them working in unison, like a well oiled machine. I can still smell the masa and simmering of all the smoked peppers, while the thick steam coming from the pots filled the air. My cousins and I would also be close by picking at the meat and helping ourselves to a warm tortilla suffered with pork, beef, chicken or all of the above!

My grandma is no longer with us but the tradition still lives on through us with my mom and her family as well with my mother in law.

One of things I look forward to every year is the unwrapping one of my family’s tamales and to know that with every bite I take, I touch something that some’s loving hands worked so hard to make. I honestly can’t wait to be able to sit down with my entire family to enjoy, not just a holiday meal but any meal. But if I had to be honest, I would much rather have a hug and a kiss from my grandmother any day!

If you would like to try some of my mom’s Tamales please DM me and I would be happy to take your order for. We have a limited amount of chicken and of a pork & beef. This batch will be ready for pick up or delivery in the fbg city limits by mid day this Wednesday 12/3/25

Wishing you all my family and friends a very Blessed and Healthy Christmas!

🍖 They call it American BBQ… but the truth is, barbacoa came first. 🇲🇽🔥

Long before there was brisket and sauce, Mexico was already slow-cooking meat — centuries before the U.S. even existed.

The word barbecue comes from the Taíno word barbacoa, brought by the Spanish. But Indigenous people in Mexico had already mastered the art — digging earth pits, lining them with maguey leaves, and slow-roasting lamb, goat, or turkey until the meat fell apart.

In Hidalgo, it became barbacoa de borrego.
In Yucatán, cochinita pibil — pork cooked underground in citrus and achiote.

So next time you bite into BBQ, remember: before it was an American tradition, it was an ancient one.
Older. Deeper. Mexican. 🇲🇽✨

Made this melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu flat iron steak sandwich on a flourless Ezekiel toast bread, smoky horseradish sauce dip that I used as my spread and a hint of fresh thyme l. Pure flavor explosion in every bite! Pairs great with a dark German beer and some rock and roll.
