I occasionally think about posting something (yes, I’m really bad at this!) and realize I’ve already had a similar post. But that’s what farming is! It’s cyclical! The same routine in the same season is a good thing. Not many changes mean we are doing things right and an uneventful day means everything is running smoothly. So…here’s hoping for uneventful days full of productivity, efficiency and gratitude!

Summer flew by and fall is just around the corner. I’ve been asked where I’ve been and the truthful answer is putting social media on pause. Sometimes I just need to sort out what is most important and be ok with letting the other things go….

However, that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy! From moving animals to canning and freezing produce, processing chickens and dealing with a wrecked truck and Covid. With a set of twins who are now high school seniors, that should say it all! But farming doesn’t stop…..

The garden beds took off! Cucumbers were never ending while the tomatoes left me disappointed. Squash plants were huge and the hummingbirds loved all the blooms! I loved watching the vines grow over the trellis :)

Our spring calf is growing and out with the “big” herd now. Baby chicks are always arriving and the ducks started laying beautiful blue-tinted eggs!

Growing and harvesting this summer is coming to a close but we’re all looking forward to a beautiful fall season on the farm!

Our Story

Virginia Sweet Grass Farm is located in western Stafford County, Virginia. We are the 3rd generation to farm the property since acquiring it in 1945. Although our family has raised dairy cows, beef cattle, corn, and soybeans in the past, we have converted 25 acres of current hay fields into pasture for cattle. Our cattle is 100% grass-finished! That means no corn, hormones or fillers, ever!! We sell family boxes (30lb mixed cuts), 1/4 and 1/2 steers.
