In 2008 we took a leap of faith to move to this place. We wanted others to be able to enjoy it as much as we do. We wanted a place for parents and grandparents to bring children and teach them about what life is like out here beyond the edges of the cities and suburbs -- an experience designed to encourage them to put down their phones and other devices. So we took another leap of faith to build two log houses where people could stay. And we oriented the front porches on those two houses to maximize our hill country sunsets.
And this is the road through which every one of our guests enters.
It leads directly into the sunset at the end of each day. Many evenings it is so beautiful that it is startling, distracting; which is the very idea. It reminds us of the fluid line between the everyday and the miraculous; the sacred and the common (or profane); the essence of incarnation; of God with us. It fills us with wonder even though it happens every single day, like clockwork.
So, as we approach Christmas and a new year, we offer you nothing more or less than a reminder of the road leading to another hill country sunset. A road and a view that we get joy out of sharing with you. A vision of the truly miraculous in the every day so beautiful that it startles and can take your breath away. And the peace, joy, and hope that it can bring with it.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Beverly and Tom at Agarita Creek.
