Sweet Grass of Ohio

Sweet Grass of Ohio We are a regenerative farm growing nutrition that lasts a life time for our family and your family. The land was converted to perennial pasture in 1991.

Sweet Grass Dairy is a needle of diversity in the middle of Ohio corn fields. The dream of farming had been stuck in Jacob’s head since childhood, but in 2012 that dream took the first step toward reality. Jacob & Liz wanted to grow great food for their young family and others when they stumbled on this little 140 acre patch of ground in Central Ohio. Right from the start they realized this opport

unity was unique! Never had GMOs planted on it, had been chemical free for nearly two decades and certified organic for 10 years when they arrived. Jake and Liz jumped into farming in Fredericktown the spring of 2013. Their dream was to build local community around great food! They had just started a family and wanted to raise the best food possible for their children and others. This inner desire accelerated them down a road of self education. Growing food organically is not simple, and they wanted to know how to raise the best food possible. Regenerative grazing and symbiotic partnerships between animals, plants, and microbes launched the farm to beautiful productivity. Jacob and Liz have now had 6 beautiful healthy children on the farm. They live and eat by everything they raise. And they share their dream and abundance of food with other like mind family’s that want to take their health and nutrition to new levels.

We love cows!

Our cows spend all day doing what cows do best, eating grass and weeds, laying in the sun and turning grass into milk! Some photos shot from our lower pasture, close to the kokosing river. Lots of plant diversity as well down here as well.

We lied to you!

We do, in fact, spray our pastures.

We spray…with whey!

Whey is considered a biproduct by many, but within this glorious liquid is an entire world of bacteria…good bacteria!

Lactic acid bacteria, or LABS, is amazing and we eat it all of the time, it’s the good bacteria in any fermented food we eat, breaking down organic matter to make the nutrients more available.

It does the same to grass, breaking down and decaying materials, faster. There are some hayfields we operate on, where we cannot run animals through, so this spraying is the perfect testing ground to show you how it can mimic the rebound effect on the land in a similar whey to animals. Adding the JLF gives it an extra boost of microbial activity to get even more out of each spray.

This way done a week or so after our first hay cutting.

Yet another way to show that we do not need to destroy the land in order to get the most production.

🍋🥛 Introducing Sweet Grass Dairy Whey Lemonade! 🥛🍋
What if one of the most refreshing drinks on the farm also happened to be one of the most traditional?

Our new Whey Lemonade starts with fresh whey from our grass-fed cheesemaking process, blended with real lemon juice and natural sweeteners for a crisp, tangy, thirst-quenching drink.
Why whey?

💧 Naturally contains electrolytes like potassium, calcium, and magnesium
🌿 Traditionally valued as a refreshing, digestion-friendly beverage
🥛 Contains nutrients from our grass-fed milk
♻️ Helps us use every part of the milk with purpose and care
☀️ No artificial colors, flavors, or unnecessary additives

For generations, farm families found creative ways to make the most of what the land and animals provided. Whey lemonade is one of those simple traditions we're excited to share with you.

From our pastures to your glass, every bottle reflects our commitment to healthy soil, healthy animals, and healthy families.

Coming this weekend June 20th!

All food starts with soil!

In fact, you could say that we aren’t really farming livestock, but instead, we are grass farmers.

To go even deeper, we are microbe farmers. The grass, meat, and dairy are simply just by products of the work we do to take care of the soil and the microbial workhorses that make it all possible.

Being surrounded by conventional farms, it’s easy for us to show you the stark differences between working with the land and working against it, and every year, farmer Jake and Liz open up the farm completely to show you how it all works. You can see with your own eyes exactly where your food comes from, how it’s raised, and even what it tastes like!

Jake gives hour long hayride tours around the pastures, where you can meet the animals where they are, see the difference in soils and learn why we need animals on the land. Living like they are supposed too. Liz gives creamery tours, where you@can tour our milking parlor and creamery where we make all the amazing dairy products we have to offer. You’ll also get to see the baby animals, tour the new farm store, shop in the old one and eat a delicious meal, made by and made using mostly food produced from right here on the farm!

Go to the link in bio to secure your ticket, which covers food, and your spot on the hayride! This is a great way to spend a day on the farm with your family and go home with the knowledge and confidence that knowing where you get your food is the difference between taking care of ourselves and the land, or degrading them.
