I didn’t break anything!
Well…I Have a Story to Tell!
Since November of 2025, I’ve been dealing with vertigo.
I had never experienced it before, but one morning I woke up and the room was spinning. Unfortunately, I had a catering job scheduled that day, so I called on Ashlee to come help me get everything done. I could barely walk without holding onto a wall.
A week went by and I still had it. I bought some supplements that were supposed to help—ginkgo, for example—and I thought they were helping a little. The vertigo became manageable enough that I could still do life, but it never completely went away.
Combined with my retinal tear and Lyme disease, life has had a few extra challenges lately!
Last month, I saw my neurologist. Because of my MS history, he wondered if I might be experiencing a flare-up caused by a new brain lesion, so we repeated my MRI. Thankfully, there were no new changes. Great news! But it still didn’t explain the vertigo.
One clue was that my vertigo happens along with nystagmus (those involuntary shaking eye movements) whenever I’m in a reclined position. Because of that, my neurologist referred me to an ENT specialist.
Today, I finally got an answer.
It turns out this type of vertigo is caused by tiny crystals inside the inner ear that become displaced. One of mine had apparently floated out of position. Did you know you have crystals in your ears? 😂 I honestly thought that sounded like crazy talk at first, but I’ve since brushed up on my ear anatomy!
At today’s appointment, the ENT performed a treatment designed to move the crystal back where it belongs. Now I have to wear this neck brace for 48 hours and sleep at a 45-degree angle to keep those little crystals from wandering off again.
The goal is to keep everything in place while my ear settles down.
So, another challenge—or maybe just another adventure—in my 60s. 😄
I was headed outside to check on my flowers this afternoon, but Dave took one look at me and said, “I think those flowers can wait awhile.”
Ha!
