Some happy news to share!
One of the greatest comforts during PEAK's closing has been knowing that Thelma, Louise, Martha, Sunny, and Pearl have found an incredible forever home.
Born in 2018, Thelma and Louise came to PEAK as fosters from Chicagoland Pig Rescue. They had been living in a dangerous situation in Illinois alongside several pot-bellied pigs, all desperately in need of new homes. While the smaller pigs were placed through the rescue's foster network, Thelma and Louise, each weighing more than 700 pounds, were a much bigger challenge. We were honored to welcome them to PEAK, where they quickly embraced life in their pasture, finally safe, happy, and free to be pigs.
In 2024, Sunflower (Sunny), Marth, and Pearl managed to escape from a processing factory where their fate was sealed for slaughter. They were around five months old when they fled into the surrounding cornfields. The factory farmer issued a notice allowing anyone who found them to shoot and take them to a processing plant. However, a compassionate neighbor sought to save them instead. She reached out to Chicagoland Pig Rescue, which provided tips and ideas for their rescue.
With perseverance, they successfully caught the pigs, and Chicagoland Pig Rescue immediately posted an emergency placement notice on Facebook, seeking a place where they could stay together. We welcomed them to our sanctuary, ensuring their safety and well-being here at PEAK. They were soon known as “The Forest Babies,” and loved exploring the woods at PEAK.
As we prepared to close, finding the right placement for these five sweeties was one of our highest priorities. We are beyond grateful that an amazing partner organization, No Swine Left Behind in Edmore, Michigan, stepped forward to give them the next chapter they deserve.
Although the circumstances that brought us together were bittersweet, something beautiful came from this experience. No Swine Left Behind built a brand-new barn for their pig residents and named it The PEAK Barn. We are deeply honored that PEAK's legacy will live on in a place dedicated to providing lifelong care for rescued pigs.
Thelma, Louise, Sunny, Martha, and Pearl are settling in beautifully, making new friends, and beginning this next adventure surrounded by people who love them as much as we do.
Please support No Swine Left Behind by following their page, cheering on these five pigs, and, if you're able, making a donation to help them continue their lifesaving work. Knowing these pigs are safe, loved, and home has been one of the greatest gifts we could have hoped for.
