The girls sure have been laying some pretty eggs lately! Someone laid an almost lavender or pink colored egg today! I'm giving the girls a few days to restock egg supplies and I'm expecting an egg carton restock next week. PM if you would like to preorder a dozen! $3.

Sure, you can compost old eggs or feed them back to the ladies (scrambled only of course!). But at this time of year I set expired eggs aside for a few weeks to hardboil and dye. While I usually go for the store bought dye kits, I made my own at home this year. Definitely doing this process from here on out. Three words: gorgeous color saturation.

Recipe below:

Supplies:

Hot water

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

20 drops each of a dye of your choice

(think 20 drops for a primary color, 40 drops for a secondary color!)

1/2 cup of boiling hot tea kettle water (easy to pour)

Reusable mixing cups

Tools to egg dip

(an ice cream scoop or tablespoon will get the job done)

Combine vinegar, dye drops of your choice & hot water. Start dipping! Leave the eggs in their dye bath 1-2 minutes (or shorter/longer intervals of time to get desired color depth). Remember to turn the egg as well occasionally.
