If you’re only growing one snapdragon variety, make it Potomac Orange. Most snapdragons struggle once the heat hits, this one doesn’t. It blooms in warm summer temperatures, gives you multiple flushes of flowers all season, and the yellow to orange to magenta gradation is unlike anything else in the field. One of my all-time favorites and one of the hardest working flowers I grow. See my full growing guide on my Substack.

Bells of Ireland, one of the most asked-about flowers at my market tent. A tall, architectural spike that adds height and movement to any arrangement, with a fresh citrusy mint scent. Harvesting them requires a little patience, clipping the leaves while avoiding the spines, but the result is worth it. Learn more about growing and harvesting them on my Substack.
