I’m beyond fed up with this state and it’s suck ass leadership. Blows my mind that myself and how many other thousands of folks have to fight these careless idiots all for profit. I’m basically set to loose my second development right and have a set of 500KV line run right through my fields, backyard essentially, and leave me without an option to possibly build or expand on it. I’m sure I’ll be “fairly compensated”….. There are folks with the lines set to go over their homes which would be torn down. Nothing formal ever presented to any of us, we only found out through locals sharing information and the contractor doing the “community information sessions” which is a complete smoke blowing bunch of bu****it. PJM is the power provider that has the lines and grid that is trying to push this through. Sad part is, all they’re actually doing is stealing electric from the east coast, where you can still have power plants because this sorry state made them “not cool” let’s get rid of them, and think it’s no biggie to run this crap through centuries old land, clearing forests, wetlands, houses, solar fields, whatever lies in the way, wiped out. The other sad part is, PJM cannot keep demands they have now, yet stating this will supply the power needed in these remote areas all to actually supply power to data centers that have been approved in the middle of nowhere. I’m confused, did they all of a sudden fart more power production? They’ve also been testing lowering voltages and other ways to “reduce the effects of the demand” which is only hurting their consumers they currently have. Also understand you typically loose 20% or so across long distance transmission lines. Makes sense to destroy folks livelihoods, property and whatever instead of say, oh, building a new power station near the demand areas? PJM also states that they couldn’t use the existing right-of-way (ROW) already in place to these regions because,l they don’t belong to them… let that sink in. While I get co-locating power on the same right-of-way with a competitor would be odd, obviously it needs improvements so how about figuring it out? The existing ROW we have is t that bad and was nestled between properties and had been built around if anything so why not find a way to give it a good upgrade if that works? Doesn’t make PJM money is why.
A Data Center Summit at Frederick Community College Thursday turned into what some protestors called a "walk of shame."
