The hens are hitting their spring stride and the store is STOCKED to the gills with eggs!

Speaking with an excited customer this morning about egg production (happy to find so many dozens in the store), we were reminded that conventional year-round access to eggs has left lots of us believing it’s a natural standard. When in fact, chickens like other birds, naturally slow egg production in the winter months. This has less to do with temperature and more to do with sunlight. Daylight is a reproductive hormone stimulant for chickens. For “optimal” laying, they require 14-16 hours of light per day! It is possible to use forced light in a coop to encourage production through winter, but like with our choice to move our birds daily to fresh pasture, and to source organic feed, our practices intentionally support our flock’s natural cycles and prioritize their health — and we believe you can taste the benefits of that choice in our eggs!

So, if winter left you feeling somewhat egg-discouraged, we’re here to tell you the girls are back at it, right when they should be. And the store is plentifully stocked with eggs, every Thursday-Saturday from 9am-1pm.

We appreciate your patience, and look forward to connecting with you when you swing through to grab a dozen or two. That’s right, the “one dozen per customer” sign has officially come down! 😎🥚
