Our local wet nurse. 3 babies born in June are definitely liking her milk and only one is her baby. She’s an American Milking Devon.

Did you know they have been brought over to the new world (America) back in 1623 when the colonists realized they needed draft power and dairy. The original shipment came with 1 bull and 2 heifers. This breed isn’t as common anymore but it’s fun learning about them.

We had our biggest green egg yet! This typically happens when a hen is nearing the end of her egg producing cycle. We’ll let you know if it’s a huge double yolker. 🥚🍳

Our newest addition to the farm. Junie is a smooth coat border collie. She was 10 weeks old when we got her. She is learning all things puppy now but loves all our other farm dogs. Training will begin in a few months. If you see her she’s a sweet little girl!

Lots of fresh pasture raised eggs available! They are also fed non GMO corn feed from the Amish. Pick up a dozen out at our berry field self-serve station. Cash or Venmo only.  Easy in, easy out.

Do you know where your food comes from? Are the animals allowed to live on the ground vs on cement or in a small cage? A happy animal will create less stress.

When an animal is stressed, its brain signals the adrenal glands to release adrenaline (or epinephrine) and corticosteroids like cortisol. These hormones prepare the body for a “fight-or-flight” response by increasing the heart rate, elevating blood sugar, and redirecting energy toward immediate survival. That’s not good for the animal. We like the meat we sell to be as good as it can be.

This past Spring I brought up a suggestion to have a summer potluck with our garden group w/no business meeting. Just great conversation and food of course. Next thing I know I was hosting it lol. A wise member told me be careful for what you suggest as it may be at your house. It was! 😂 In all fun it turned out nice. I was so thankful for the ladies who helped out prior to the dinner beginning. We have a great group of ladies in our Saginaw Branch - hands down!!!

It was a HOT one tonight but we all managed to have a great time in the shade with a light breeze for a garden potluck dinner that Jon and I hosted for Woman’s Farm & Garden Saginaw Branch.

So many tasty foods were prepared and wonderful conversations. They all got a taste of our country life here on the Flying Dutchman Farm. 🥰

Another day… Another baby! A little bull was born this afternoon. Our neighbors set up some lawn chairs and got to watch some nature happen. They loved it!

This Memorial Day we had twin bull calves born this morning. We have never had twin cows born before so it’s another first for our farm.

Both are doing well and the mother is taking well care of both. 🥰
