I physically can't do it all. I found my limits this summer and realized I fill my day to the max every day and honestly I didn't mind it for the last year. I understood that I have to do what it takes to get my farm up and running but there comes a time when it needs to be able to just float across the ocean of life. I am working towards duplicating myself in a couple of ways so I can slow down and enjoy the life I've built and the company around me. 💚

Arguably the last two decades in small business of the American life has suffered. The dream that was dreamed 100 years ago, that came to fruition 85 years ago and that should be celebrated a century later, has closed it's doors or is struggling with hoops, hurdles and hinders from local, state and/or federal regulations.

Does your family have a story of dreams, success and loss? What do you miss the most?

Competition is good for the business cycle, it's healthy for children and it's necessary to maintain affordable prices. When money buys politicians, policies go unchallenged and sometimes not enforced.

A century later and the working class of the United States is suffering more than ever.

Anchor cows are worth their weight in gold. Which cow is the anchor cow in this picture?

Shakira had already been milked but I brought her back through to help with the fresh heifer situation. The jersey wasn't bad behaved but being in a new environment and having a lot of wiggle room is not ideal.

Also, holy moly, look at that size difference! Shakira is a pretty big swiss cow, but she dwarfs the newcomer jersey by a TON.

I LOVE having diversity on the farm, I think it allows me to be more well rounded and a better herds woman to understand the needs of a variety of breeds. I still dislike jerseys with a passion. But I like understanding why I don't like them.

We'll see how long this lady can hang around the big girls, she's escaped 4 times in 12 hours so far. Reel to follow 🙄

Newborn calves are the most susceptible to illness on the farm, I want to raise hearty, healthy and happy calves and love to try new products for the best calf care I can provide! PhytoCare sent me a 900mL bottle of Ruminant Newborn, an enteric cellular condition & biome support.

Today is officially 11 months of milking 24 cows! I was up to 30 at one point and down to 21 at another but I've held steady for my double 6 herringbone parlor.

You can milk a small herd of cows but you have to he open to trying new things!

A little business talk for our Tuesday afternoon! Learning how to build credit, use credit, borrow against your credit, etc is all part of owning and growing a business. Sometimes you do it successfully, sometimes not but what stands you apart from others is how you get yourself out of debt.

I've learned so much in the last 5 years, I feel confident walking into any bank, real estate transaction or business discussion now that I'm able to see all of the endless options of balancing funds. You don't need a lot of money to get started but you do need to have the ability to get creative.

The biggest lesson that I've learned is that anyone can make money, that's actually the easy part, it's how you handle losing money and still fighting the fight to show up everyday.

It's not about what you know but who you know and I'm happy to help you grow in your small dairy business!
