Our Story

Laughing Stock Farm is a four season, family owned vegetable farm located in Freeport, Maine. We have been certified organic for 22 years, but have decided this is not the year to pay the cost of certifying, although we don’t intend to change anything we do. We have been serving the restaurant, retail, and consumer markets from Portland to Brunswick since 1997. Four season farming in our 14,200 square feet of winter greenhouses allows us to provide fresh, local produce to our CSA shareholders, restaurants and retailers all winter, while our twelve outside acres rest for the coming April. Since the beginning our commitment has been to provide fresh, tasty, beautiful vegetables. We stand behind our product. For the first few years we worked hard to build the soil back to optimal fertility and expand our knowledge of varieties and growing techniques. Over the years we’ve added irrigation to the fields, heated greenhouses for winter production, and a state-of-the-art walk-in cooler to assure that the product is beautiful in the field and stays that way from the time it’s harvested and packaged until it’s delivered. We will always strive to continuously improve our farm infrastructure, equipment, and practices. If you are a consumer interested in purchasing our certified organic vegetables, or any of the other local farm products that we carry all year round, visit our Community Supported Agriculture or "CSA" link below to see details of how our CSA works, as well as how you can buy your Summer and Winter farm shares. If you are a consumer wondering where you can experience our products prepared by some of the best chefs in Maine, you should visit the Wholesale link, which is also provided below. If you are a restaurant or retail establishment in the Portland to Brunswick area interested in offering our certified organic produce to your customers, visit our "Wholesale" link below.
