On Thanksgiving 2023, a young female fin whale named Finny came ashore in Steuben. She was emaciated and barely half the size of a full-grown adult at just 49.6 feet long. After her death, College of the Atlantic Allied Whale staff, students, and volunteers recovered her skeleton many months later with support from Maine Beer Company.

In the earliest days of MBC, our first nonprofit donation of only $100 began a partnership that has grown over time and continues to this day in support of Allied Whale's work, leading the way in marine mammal field research.

Finny was carefully cleaned and reassembled by students at College of the Atlantic under the guidance of Dan DenDanto of Whales and Nails, a research associate with Allied Whale and COA'91. On September 16th, Finny’s skeleton will be suspended above the Maine Beer Company tasting room, giving her a second life to spark curiosity and connection to these magnificent animals.

And speaking of fin whales, Lunch, a fin whale first spotted along the Maine coast in 1982, has what looks like a bite taken out of her dorsal fin. In 2009, Lunch captured the imagination of David, our co-founder. Following an unplanned visit to a whale museum on a rainy day, he named our signature IPA after her. While not Lunch, this fin whale skeleton serves as a reminder of our lasting partnership in support of the wild and majestic marine mammals of Maine.

We invite you to join us in officially welcoming Finny to our family with a special Evening Benefit for Allied Whale on Wednesday, October 1st. We will unveil the fin whale skeleton in our tasting room, and have remarks from:

• Daniel Kleban, Co-founder of Maine Beer Company
• Sean Todd, Director, COA Allied Whale
• Dr. Sylvia Torti, President of College of the Atlantic
• Rep. Chellie Pingree, U.S. Representative, COA Class of 1979

Let’s Get Together for Lunch! We hope to see you there.

All proceeds directly support the critical work of Allied Whale.

We are excited to host a special agave spirits tasting and educational session with Lou Bank TONIGHT, May 1st, from 6:00 - 8:00pm.

Lou is the founder of SACRED, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a fellow 1% for the Planet member that helps improve lives in the rural Mexican communities where heritage agave spirits are made. Throughout the evening, SACRED Agave will be our Community Pizza Night nonprofit. Lou is also the host of Agave Road Trip, a critically acclaimed, award-winning podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico.

“Every media outlet from the New York Times to Vogue has declared that Mezcal is 'having a moment' — and they’ve been declaring that for almost twenty years now. In this educational tasting of five agave spirits, Lou Bank walks attendees through a tasting that explains why Mezcal is having a moment, what makes it different from Tequila, and how your drinking habits can either preserve it or destroy it.”

We still have some tickets available, with one hundred percent of proceeds benefiting SACRED Agave's work. Your ticket includes samples of spirits. Food and additional beverages will be available for purchase. All seating will be communal, at tables. This is a 21+ event. We hope to see you there!

Tickets can be purchased at this link: https://shop.mainebeercompany.com/products/the-400-decisions-of-mezcalero-victor-ramos-w-lou-bank-of-sacred?utm_source=copyToPasteBoard&utm_medium=product-links&utm_content=web

This Wednesday's Community Pizza Night will support our dear friends Maine Coast Heritage Trust. 20% of the evening's food sales will support their work.

Since 1970, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) has helped conserve over 180,000 acres and 337 islands, including over 160 places open to the public offering over 100 miles of hiking trails. Their priorities are mitigating the impacts of climate change on the coast, protecting vulnerable plants and animals, expanding access to the coast, and serving Maine’s coastal communities and network of over 80 land trusts.

Join us for dine-in or take-out and support Maine's coast.

If you haven't heard, we are hosting MCHT for their annual fundraiser, 𝐓𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 on March 27th. Tickets are now on sale! To learn more visit mcht.org

The Conservation Series includes four existing IPAs in our portfolio—𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐞, 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐞'𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐤, 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 & 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐭. Each of these beers represents one of our 1% for the Planet partners doing meaningful work in land, wildlife, trail, and coastal conservation.

These beers will rotate on our release calendar and be available across our distribution network. When you get your hands on them (which we highly recommend), take a moment to read more about the inspiring organizations on the back of each label, and rest assured that you're helping us 𝐝𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐫.

Introducing Black Barn Program No. 50, a 5.0% Schwartzbier developed by Jake.

"My philosophy when approaching the creation of this recipe was 'less is more.' Each alteration to the first version of this recipe were reductions; less roasted malt, less hops, and less original gravity. The de-bittered black malt that I used allows for deep dark hues, roasted flavor and aroma, and minimal astringency that leaves the palate clean and ready for another sip.

Although roasted malt was used and the beer itself is nearly black, Schwarzbiers should drink more like a Pilsner than a stout or porter. The roasted malt is certainly the dominant visual, aromatic, and flavor component but there is still much to experience while drinking a Schwarzbier.

I'm pleased to present this recipe, which has wonderful depth while remaining light and drinkable. The dense natural carbonation allows for more attributes to shine through: bread crust, baker's chocolate, toffee, herbal and sweet sulfur from the yeast, and grassy/tea notes from the small addition of hops in the kettle.

I'm very proud of this recipe and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Prost!" - Jake W, Brewer/R&D

No. 50 is now available in bottles and on draft exclusively at our Freeport tasting room.

Our Black Barn Program is about creativity, learning, and challenging our team to brew the highest quality beer. It allows our brewers to work with new styles/recipes, new ingredients, and new processes.

Tonight's Community Pizza Night will support the Friends of RSU5 "Build it Back for Bob" campaign, seeking to resurface Freeport's only full-court public basketball facility. 20% of all food sales from 4:00p to close will be donated to support this project.

Over 30 years ago, the Freeport Outdoor Recreation Group, led by the passionate Freeport resident, Bob Smith, installed these courts, still the only full-court outdoor basketball facility in town. Time has taken its toll, and the courts are in dire need of resurfacing. Together, in the spirit of Bob Smith, we hope to restore this vital community resource.

In addition, many local businesses have generously donated raffle items to benefit the cause.
